  • Patent number: 6306377
Abstract: By incorporating cationic guar gums in combination with nonionic guar gums in a single gel composition, a highly effective, hair straightening/smoothing composition is realized which achieves the temporary straightening and/or smoothing of hair fibers, without chemically interacting with the hair fiber itself. By employing the present invention, a temporary hair straightening effect is realized which enables a wide variety of hair styles or fashions to be attained, while still enabling the hair change effect to be easily reversed by merely washing the hair to remove the chemical formulation. In addition, the physical properties of the hair fibers, such as feel, shine, luster, softness and manageability are retained without adverse effect. In the preferred embodiment, in addition to employing a cationic guar gum, in combination with a nonionic guar gum, the present invention also incorporates additives such as humidity protectors, fragrances, preservatives, pH controllers, and water.

  • Patent number: 5340570
Abstract: By incorporating an alkyl polyol and a water soluble or emulsifiable silicone based compound into a moderately viscous gel-type hair conditioning composition, a hair conditioning gel formulation is attained which is able to be delivered in a spray mist pattern using conventional small diametered pump spray nozzles. Preferably, the alkyl polyol has a carbon content ranging between 2 and 8, and the hydroxyl ion content ranges between 2 and 7 and are not spaced apart by more than 4 carbon atoms. It has been found that by employing this invention, the resulting gel formulation is able to be dispensed consistently, repeatedly and easily in a liquified spray mist through a pump nozzle having apertures ranging between about 0.010 and 0.030 mm.

  • Patent number: 5059414
Abstract: By combining two or more separate and distinct cosmetic preparations in independent gelling matrices to obtain a plurality of phases and combining the plurality of previously incompatible phases into a single container, a multi-phase, high viscosity cosmetic product is attained which assures that all phases are simultaneously dispensed from the container in a repeatable, consistent, metered ratio. By employing the present invention, a combined styling and conditioning product is achieved as well as a combined shampoo and conditioning product and a combined conditioner/conditioner for the face, hands or hair. In addition, the multi-phase, high viscosity cosmetic products of the present invention are preferably constructed with each of these phases being visually distinctive from each of the other phases, thereby providing a readily indentifiable and visually distinctive and pleasing appearance.
