  • Patent number: 6552110
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to thermoplastic marking compositions comprising a binder, which in turn comprise at least one homogeneous polymer. Accordingly, the subject invention provides a thermoplastic marking composition comprising: (a) from 10 to 80 weight percent of a binder, which in turn comprises: (i) from 1 to 99 weight percent of at least one homogeneous polymer; (ii) from 5 to 70 weight percent of at least one tackifier; (iii) from 0 to 10 weight percent of a polyethylene which has pendant acid functionality moieties of a non-functionalized wax; and (iv) from 0 to 20 weight percent of a plasticizer; and (b) from 20 to 90 weight percent of an inorganic filler. The subject formulations are usefully applied via spray, screed, and extrusion techniques.

  • Patent number: 6521306
Abstract: The invention includes a process of preparing a coupled polymer characterized by heating an admixture containing (1) at least one ethylene polymer or blend of ethylene polymers having a density of at least about 0.89 g/mL and less than about 0.935 g/mL and a comonomer content between about 0.5 and 50 weight percent of an alpha olefin having greater than 2 and less than 20 carbon atoms per molecule and (2) a coupling amount of at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least about 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer. The amount of poly(sulfonyl azide) is preferably from about 0.01 to about 5 weight percent of polymers in the admixture. The invention also includes any composition which is the product of any of the processes of the invention and articles made from those compositions, particularly any film of any composition of the invention.

  • Patent number: 6506848
Abstract: The present invention includes a process of preparing a coupled polymer comprising heating an admixture containing (1) at least one elastomer comprising ethylene and at least one comonomer which is selected from alpha olefins having at least 3 carbon atoms, dienes and combinations thereof and (2) a coupling amount at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer having a gel content of less than 2 weight percent. The invention includes compositions comprising the reaction product formed by the inventive process. The invention additionally includes articles which comprise a composition of the invention particularly when the article is formed from a melt of the composition.

  • Publication number: 20020123573
Abstract: Polymers coupled by reaction with coupling agents according to the practice of the invention advantageously have at least one of these desirable properties and preferably have desirable combinations of these properties. The present invention includes a process of preparing a coupled polymer comprising heating an admixture containing (1) at least one elastomer comprising ethylene and at least one comonomer which is selected from alpha olefins having at least 3 carbon atoms, dienes and combinations thereof and (2) a coupling amount at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) to at least the decomposition temperature of the poly(sulfonyl azide) for a period sufficient for decomposition of at least about 80 weight percent of the poly(sulfonyl azide) and sufficient to result in a coupled polymer having a gel content of less than about 2 weight percent.

  • Patent number: 6120887
Abstract: This invention relates to a non-contact coating method for producing a continuous coating and articles constructed therefrom. This invention further relates to a method for producing a textile material with a moisture-impermeable barrier layer and to a method for producing a moisture-absorbing article of hygiene which has such a barrier layer. This invention particularly relates to a textile material and hygienic disposable articles comprising a body fluid impermeable barrier layer which can be produced from a non-contact coating method. Preferably, the thermoplastic composition used for producing the barrier layer exhibits certain rheological characteristics and comprises at least one homogeneous linear or substantially linear interpolymer of ethylene with at least one C.sub.3 -C.sub.20 alpha-olefin, further characterized by each said interpolymer having a polydispersity less than about 2.5.
