  • Publication number: 20220363847
Abstract: The invention concerns a film based on a binary polymer composition having at least a first polymer and a second polymer. The film is oriented by extruding and stretching the film in at least the machine direction. The glass-transition temperature (Tg) of the first polymer is greater than the orientation temperature and the glass-transition temperature (Tg) of the second polymer is lower than the orientation temperature. Furthermore, a method and use related thereto are described.

  • Patent number: 10786829
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous roll-to-roll process for improving the water tolerance of bio-based polymers, in particular cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) films. Furthermore, the invention provides a method, which combines surface modification/functionalization for improving water stability and wet strength, UV/Ozone treatment, corona treatment or plasma activation for purifying and activating the surface and thus increasing the reaction efficiency, and further hydrophobization of the surface of CNF film.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 8066903
Abstract: A method for preparing a cellulose carbamate solution. Dissolving is performed in two steps, first by moistening cellulose carbamate pulp with a dilute alkaline solution and second by admixing a concentrated alkaline solution, as cold as possible, to the pulp under intensive stirring. The technique utilizes the low freezing point of the aqueous NaOH solution at the concentration of 18%, wherein the freezing point is below ?20° C., and the intensive stirring function of the dissolve mixer device during the dosage. It is possible to prepare solutions of high quality and having high dry matter content in a mixing time of a few minutes only.

  • Publication number: 20110256362
Abstract: The present invention relates to a modified fibrous product and a method of producing the same. According to the method, transparent areas are generated in the fibrous product, such as in a paper or a cardboard sheet or in a paper or a cardboard web. According to the present invention, a carbohydrate derivative that includes a plasticizer is incorporated into the fibrous product, and the carbohydrate derivative, which is plasticized with the plasticizer, is brought, in a liquid state and under pressure, to migrate in between the fibres of the product in such a way that at least part of the plasticizer penetrates into the lumens of the fibres, in which case the fibrous product becomes transparent in the treated area. By using the solution, it is possible to simplify the method of further processing paper or cardboard for consumer packages. The present invention can be applied to, among other products, envelopes having a window through which the address is visible.

  • Publication number: 20110046365
Abstract: A transglycosylation product, a method of producing the same and use of the product. The transglycosylation product comprises an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl glycoside of a cellulose ester or ether, wherein the alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups of the glycoside residue comprise a carbon chain having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and having 0 to 2 free hydroxyl groups and being attached to the 1-carbon of the anhydroglucose unit via an oxy group. The product can be produced by mixing the cellulose derivative with mono-, di- or triol to form a reaction mixture, after which the reaction mixture is heated and the reaction is continued until a clear mixture is obtained. After cooling the recoverable product is suitable for use for example as an adhesive or as a hydrophobic coating.
