  • Patent number: 5645365
Abstract: A coupling device adapted for use with floor maintenance machines of the type used for floor brushing, buffing, polishing, scrubbing or the like and which facilitates the coupling of a maintenance element (i.e., brush, buffing disk or the like). The device comprises an annular plate member having a circular opening adapted to receive a circular drive hub carried by the machine drive shaft with the drive shaft having radially projecting lugs that are adapted to pass through radially extending arcuate recesses formed in the plate member so as to lockably engage behind the plate member. On one side of the coupling device, a first series of inner peripheral cam-like ramps communicate with one end of the arcuate recesses and on the opposite of the plate member, a second series of inner peripheral cam-like ramps communicate with the opposite ends of the arcuate recesses.

  • Patent number: 5400461
Abstract: A coupler is disclosed for coupling floor maintenance pads to a driven pad disc. The coupler has one part for mounting on the driven disc and a second part which threads to the first part for holding and centering a maintenance pad to a disc. A lock arrangement is provided for preventing the coupler from becoming unthreaded during operation. The locking arrangement is formed by a detent mechanism. One part of the detent mechanism is formed on the first part and another cooperating part of the detent mechanism is formed on the second part. When the coupler parts are threaded together to secure a pad, the detent mechanism engages and provides a resisting force against unthreading. In another embodiment, wedge-shaped projections are formed on one part of the coupler for engaging a pad and resisting loosening.

  • Patent number: 4722634
Abstract: The present invention relates to an adapter device made from a polymeric material for detachably connecting a broom, brush, mop or the like to a hollow or solid core handle member. The device includes a unitary body constructed with a multi-diameter interior defining an internal shoulder portion adapted to abuttingly receive the end of a handle and a multi-step-down exterior terminating in a threaded or tapered male end portion adapted to be frictionally coupled into the corresponding female threaded or tapered socket in the brush head.

  • Patent number: 4536912
Abstract: The present invention relates to floor maintenance machines and more particularly relates to a new and improved construction of a coupler device for centering and locking a floor maintenance pad, such as a cleaning, stripping, polishing or scrubbing pad, to a power-driven floor maintenance machine. The present invention has particular application for use with relatively high speed, heavy duty commercial and/or industrial type floor maintenance machines.

  • Patent number: 4433931
Abstract: A coupler device made from a polymeric material for detachably connecting a broom, brush, mop or the like to a handle member, the device including a generally hollow, elongated body having an exterior male threaded portion adapted for threading attachment within a corresponding female threaded socket portion in the broom, brush, mop or the like. The body includes a multiple diameter bore defining an interior shoulder portion adapted to abuttingly receive the end of a hollow handle having a passageway therein, and an integral, elongated post portion extending axially through the bore adapted to be engageably received in the passageway in the handle for securement of the device thereto. In another form, a reinforcement element is fixed within the bore in the post portion for strengthening the coupling with the handle member.

  • Patent number: 4391548
Abstract: A coupling device adapted for use with floor maintenance machines of the type such as floor brushing, buffing, polishing, scrubbing or the like which enables automatic coupling of the maintenance element (i.e. brush, buffing disc or the like) without direct manual implementation thereof. The device includes an annular plate member having a circular opening adapted to receive a circular mounting flange carried by the machine drive shaft with the drive shaft having radially projecting lugs which are adapted to pass through radially extending arcuate recesses formed in the plate member so as to lockably engage behind the plate member. On one side of the plate member a first series of inner peripheral cam-like ramps communicate with one end the arcuate recesses and on the opposite side of the plate member a second series of inner peripheral cam-like ramps communicate with the opposite ends of the arcuate recesses.

  • Patent number: 4114225
Abstract: The present invention provides a brush-like mounting device of the type for detachably mounting a cleaning, stripping, scrubbing, polishing or the like type member, such as a pad, for commercial, industrial and/or residential applications. The device includes a generally rigid body member having at least one generally planar side surface. First retention means, including resilient filament means, extends from this surface for coacting gripping engagement with a pad; and second retention means including resilient filament means extends from said surface and angularly in respect to said first retention means for coacting gripping engagement with the confronting surface of said pad and with said first and second filament means coacting for detachably mounting said pad on said mounting device.
