The base detergent is mixed with an agglomerate including nonionic surfactants and a builder such as an alkali metal carbonate. The detergent has improved color retention properties. A method of preparing the improved detergent composition is also provided.

In accordance with preferred embodiments, a carbonate built detergent comprising an agglomerateed admixture of a base granular formulation and a detergent agglomerate is provided. The base granular composition comprises a carrier together with a copolymer which serves to improve anti-encrustation and anti-redeposition properties of the detergent. A method of preparing the improved detergent composition is also provided.
