  • Patent number: 4467065
Abstract: Semi-crystalline polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution and having incorporated therein a non-crystalline mobilizing additive which increases the free volume of the polymer, with such a combination preventing embrittlement of the polymer during and subsequent to irradiation sterilization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 8, 1981
Date of Patent: August 21, 1984
    Assignee: Becton Dickinson and Company
Inventors: Joel Williams, Terry Dunn, Vivian Stannett

  • Patent number: 4110185
Abstract: An article of a semi-crystalline polymer such as polypropylene, is sterilized by high energy irradiation, with the polymer containing a non-crystalline mobilizing additive which increases the free volume of the polymer, to thereby prevent embrittlement of the polymer during and subsequent to the irradiation. The additive has a density of from 0.6 to 1.9 g/cm.sup.3 and a molecular weight from 100 to 10,000 g/mole.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 10, 1976
Date of Patent: August 29, 1978
    Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and Company
Inventors: Joel Williams, Terry Dunn, Vivian Stannett
