Publication number: 20210293024Abstract: A manual crimping device for roof seaming purposes that includes interchangeable components to allow for myriad different crimping configurations is disclosed. Such a device (and method of roof seaming utilization therewith) permits a user a selection of many different crimping results, whether in terms of crimp angle, crimp indentations, and/or crimp folds. A two-station crimp application configuration within the subject device further permits the user the ability to deform a subject seam to a proper final result, basically providing an initial crimp operation with a separate second and subsequent crimp to the same seam until reaching final status. The interchangeable components, being at least an anvil, a blade, and a hook, allows for these myriad different results without having to utilize and thus possess such a myriad different number of manual crimpers. A manual crimping method utilizing such a versatile device for different crimping results is encompassed herewith as well.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2020Publication date: September 23, 2021Inventor: Terry L. Patent number: 11124969Abstract: An apparatus for seaming roof assemblies having a modular provision of tooling stations is disclosed herein. Such an apparatus includes multiple tooling stations that may be added or removed on demand in order to facilitate different degrees of seaming engagements as needed. Such a device utilizes horizontal rollers to provide seaming of overlapping roof panel ends to reduce the potential for separation thereof after building erection has been undertaken, further impeding water egress therethrough and wind updraft damage, at least, as well. The modular device thus provides a manner of selecting specific numbers of horizontal rollers for seaming contact with metal roof panels, thereby allowing for different types of panels and end structures thereof, as well as reduce the propensity for jamming of such multiple rollers during utilization. The method of utilization of such a modular device is encompassed herein as well.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2019Date of Patent: September 21, 2021Assignee: RIDER RENTS SIX, LLCInventor: Terry L. Patent number: 9925580Abstract: A motorized crimping mechanism to impart substantially 90 degree crimps to adjacent roof and/or wall panel seams of a fabricated edifice is provided. Such a crimping device allows for substantially uniform seaming along the target contact line of two adjacent panels with substantially similar pressures and torque applied thereto at the selected locations of crimp application. The motorized device itself includes a rotary drive shaft to apply sufficient pressures for 90 degree crimps in two adjacent metal panels, as well as an optional guide to ensure proper placement and direction along the entire contact line between such panels. The invention thus encompasses the device as well as the method of using such a motorized crimper for connecting standing seams of adjacent side edges of two building panels.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2011Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Developmental Industries, Inc.Inventor: Terry L. Patent number: 8495847Abstract: An improved roof panel system used on a building that exhibits, upon seaming, a substantially even distribution on both sides of such a seam is provided. Such a system thus permits not only increased resistance to wind uplift forces but also a more reliable roof in terms of load-bearing and load-carrying than typical single seamed roof panel systems. Particularly, the novel roof panel includes a female flange end portion with an extended “T” shape within its periphery and a male flange end portion with its own complementary “T” configuration to fit within the female flange. Such an extended “T” shape within the female flange end portion includes an extra extension that permits, upon engagement with the male flange end portion, two seams on either side of the engagement line of the two end portions of the roof panels. In such a manner, the two seams can also be compressed to become parallel with engagement line, or substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the roof line itself.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2011Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Developmental Industries, Inc.Inventor: Terry L. Patent number: 8322014Abstract: A self-propelled apparatus for the seaming of roof assemblies for a building structure, wherein the apparatus includes multiple belt components configured parallel to one another around the same set of horizontal rollers for the alignment of panel edges in order for engagement of such horizontal rollers to perform the seaming procedure is provided. Such an apparatus exhibits a greatly reduced propensity for potentially marring, distorting, or otherwise misaligning the panel edges due to uniform pressures exerted on the target panel surfaces during use. In addition, the inventive multiple belt-drive apparatus exhibits a much lower potential for slippage during use than an apparatus utilizing multiple rollers to apply proper force during a seaming operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2009Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Inventor: Terry L Rider

Patent number: 6115899Abstract: A roof seaming apparatus for seaming a metal roof provides a frame having opposed upper and lower roller groups that can selectively engage and seam the roof panels depending upon orientation of the frame. When seaming a roof, the machine lower rollers engage the roof seam at the eave of the roof. The machine is powered so that the upper rollers from the seam as the machine travels to the roof crest. At the crest, the machine is inverted so that the upper rollers engage and form the seam from the crest to the opposite eave.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1999Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Inventor: Terry L.
