  • Patent number: 4999185
Abstract: A composition for inhibiting sordes formation is adapted for application to the oral cavity and contains an amount of isolated cacao husk extract effective to inhibit sordes formation. The cacao husk extract is extracted from cacao husks with a polar solvent. It has been found that the composition according to the invention inhibits glucosyltransferase activity, and thereby inhibits glucan synthesis. The composition may take the form of chocolates, stick gum, candy, biscuits, chocolate milk or ice cream incorporating the extract, or the extract may also be formulated as a tablet, toothpaste or mouthwash.

  • Patent number: 4621137
Abstract: The present invention relates to food products containing a novel alpha-glycosyl ginsenoside wherein one or more alpha-glucosyl moieties are bound to ginsenoside residue, and a process for producing the food products. Such alpha-glycosyl ginsenoside is obtainable by subjecting an aqueous solution of ginsenoside and an alpha-glucosyl saccharide to an alpha-glucosyl transferase.

  • Patent number: 4557927
Abstract: Novel alpha-glycosylated soybean glycosides wherein one or more glucosyl residues are bound to the soybean glycoside moiety are prepared. Alpha-glycosylation can be enzymatically achieved by subjecting an aqueous solution containing a soybean glycoside, e.g. soyasaponin or isoflavonoid, and an alpha-glucosyl saccharide to an alpha-glucosyl transferase. Suitable alpha-glucosyl saccharides are liquefied starch, partially hydrolyzed starch and sucrose. Alpha-glucosidase, alpha-amylase, cyclodextrin glucanotransferase, dextransucrase, dextran dextrinase and amylosucrase are usable as the alpha-glucosyl transferase. Since in the alpha-glycosylated soybean glycosides the undesirable bitter, astringent, harsh and lingering choky tastes which are common in intact soybean glycosides are reduced or even eliminated by the alpha-glycosylation, they are suitable for use in food products or orally-usable products wherein taste is an important factor.

  • Patent number: 4247037
Abstract: In welding tubular members of stainless steel, metal is deposited by build-up welding on a portion of the inner surface of each tubular member adjacent an edge thereof where welding gives a heat affection and exposed to a corrosive fluid when in service, and melting a portion of the inner surface of each tubular member in a zone adjacent to the metal deposited by build-up welding and affected by the heat of the build-up welding, said portion being exposed to the corrosive fluid when in service. Following the completion of these two steps, the tubular members of stainless steel are welded at the edges thereof to be joined. The method has the effect of preventing the occurrence of stress corrosion cracking at the inner surface of the piping which is near the joint and exposed to the corrosive fluid.

  • Patent number: 4203038
Abstract: A high density spent fuel storage rack including a plurality of neutron absorbing containers each designed to perimentrically encircle a fuel assembly, the containers being arranged so that the rack can store a plurality of fuel assemblies disposed vertically in an array with predetermined spaces between the adjacent fuel assemblies. Each of the containers is provided with enlarged upper and lower end portions respectively abutting against enlarged upper and lower end portions of the adjacent containers along their outer peripheries. The abutting end portions are joined by edge-welding to one another whereby the containers are formed into a unitary structure providing predetermined spaces between the adjacent containers.
