  • Patent number: 8850860
Abstract: Provided is a method of controlling operation of a tandem rolling mill which enables large reduction rolling in the latter-stage stand of the tandem rolling mill necessary for manufacturing fine-grained steel, and so on. The method comprises: a step of determining a first exit-side sheet thickness in rolling a constant portion of a material to be rolled; and a step of determining a second exit-side sheet thickness in rolling a front end portion of the material, such that a pre-tightening load becomes a set value or less; the material is rolled into the second exit-side sheet thickness, until the front end portion is fed into the stands; the constant portion is rolled by the stand given a pre-tightening load into the first exit-side sheet thickness; and the second exit-side sheet thicknesses of the stands given the pre-tightening load are made larger than the first exit-side sheet thickness.

  • Patent number: 6643883
Abstract: A wiper apparatus which sandwiches a strip plate 2 between upper and lower wiper rolls 3 and 4 to squeeze out a rolling oil adhering to the strip plate 2, wherein backup rolls 5, 6 for reinforcing the wiper rolls 3, 4 each have a single sleeve 14 rotatably supported by two bearings 13 on a roll shaft, and the bearings 13 on the upper and lower backup rolls 5 and 6 are disposed on the roll shafts with a shorter span than the barrel length of the sleeve, and in point symmetry. Thus, a contact linear pressure distribution of the wiper rolls 3, 4 on the strip plate 2 can be made uniform.

  • Patent number: 5390518
Abstract: The invention provides a method for improving the luster of a metal sheet surface without deteriorating the productivity and also in reducing the difference in glossiness between the upper and lower surfaces of the metal sheet at the time of cold-rolling. By making the velocity, after rolling of the metal sheet, equal to or larger than the rotational circumferential velocity of the work rolls, and by rolling the metal sheet with upper and lower work rolls crossed with each other in such manner that an angle of slip scratches left on the metal sheet surfaces becomes 5 degrees or larger and shear deformation in the widthwise direction can be effectively given to the metal sheet just before rolling, thereby improving the surface luster of the metal sheet.

  • Patent number: 4385512
Abstract: A tandem rolling mill train for rolling metal plate or sheet includes a plurality of crossed-roll type rolling mill stands. The work rolls on at least two of the crossed-roll type rolling mill stands are respectively slanted in opposite directions so that the widthwise shear deformation developed on the upstream crossed-roll type stand is reduced by the widthwise shear deformation caused on the downstream crossed-roll type stand.
