  • Patent number: 6718790
Abstract: A cooling device is constructed by a water impermeable member defining a water passage, the water impermeable member being provided with a vapor permeable member which is permeable to water vapor and impermeable to water, and has the form of a mesh and made of a material having water repellency. The cooling device has a long-life operation while preventing wear-out of the vapor permeable member. Further, optimally setting the size of an opening of the mesh member enables to securely dissipate water vapor outside of the cooling device through the vapor permeable member while efficiently suppressing water leak.

  • Patent number: 6465618
Abstract: Disclosed is a substantially pure MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) kinase derived from a vertebrate, which is activated by a stimulus induced by TNF-&agr; and/or by a stimulation of Fas antigen, and which in turn activates SAPK/JNK, but does not activate p38; and also disclosed is a DNA coding for the same. By the use of the novel MAPK kinase and the DNA coding for the same of the present invention, it has become possible to screen a novel substance having the capability to treat or prevent diseases resulting from an excess activation or inhibition of a MAP kinase cascade, and also to provide a diagnostic reagent for such diseases. In addition, the DNA of the present invention encoding the MAPK kinase can be used as a gene source for gene therapy.

  • Patent number: 6282913
Abstract: A water vaporization type cooling apparatus for cooling a heat-generating unit comprises a container which is made of a good thermal conductive material and has an opening, a selective water vapor permeable membrane which is mounted to the container so as to cover the opening and forms a closed space cooperatively with the container, and water charged in the closed space. In the water vaporization type cooling apparatus, the container is thermally connected to the heat-generating unit and dehydrated air flows along the outer surface of the selective water vapor permeable membrane, whereby the heat-generating unit is cooled down.

  • Patent number: 6164088
Abstract: A method for recovering a condensable gas from a mixed gas uses a condensable gas recovering apparatus. The apparatus comprises a compressor for compressing a mixed gas comprising a condensable gas and an incondensable gas, a mixed gas separator including a cooler and an adsorbent that adsorbs the incondensable gas, and a vacuum exhauster. The method comprises the steps of introducing the mixed gas highly compressed by the compressor into the mixed gas separator, liquefying and recovering the condensable gas by cooling the mixed gas separator with the cooler while the adsorbent adsorbs the incondensable gas contained in the mixed gas in a high pressure state, and exhausting the incondensable gas from the adsorbent in a low pressure state where the gas in the mixed gas separator has been exhausted by the vacuum exhauster. Therefore, recovery of the condensable gas is carried out with high reliability, and mixing of a large quantity of the condensable gas into the incondensable gas is easily prevented.

  • Patent number: 6054025
Abstract: A plurality of solid polyelectrolytic elements are stacked via spacers having conductive metal plates, and together with air channels, form three-dimensional electrolytic reaction surfaces. The plurality of solid polyelectrolytic elements are stacked by connecting the same electrically in series so that surfaces of the same polarity face each other.

  • Patent number: 5985111
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a water-evaporation type cooling apparatus which uses a solid-state electrolytic element, is free from an environmental protection problem, is soundless, and has a small size. An solid-state electrolytic element 50 is arranged to partition an airtight can 51 into spaces 51a, 51b, water 53 is reserved in the space 51a, and a condenser 55 is arranged to communicate with the space 51b. A water-reservation portion of the space 51a communicates with a water-reservation portion of the condenser 55 through a water path 57, and gas-phase portions of the spaces 51a, 51b communicate with each other through a ventilation path 58. A power is supplied from a DC power supply 52 to the solid-state electrolytic element 50 to make water decomposition reaction on an anode side and water generation reaction on a cathode side.

  • Patent number: 5736017
Abstract: This invention has as its object to obtain a compact solid high polymer electrolytic module having a large electrolytic reaction capacity. An electrolytic membrane (20) is constituted in such a manner that strip-shaped anodes (23) and strip-shaped cathodes (22) are formed at a predetermined interval opposite to each other on both the surfaces of a belt-shaped solid high polymer electrolytic membrane (21). A frame (30) is constituted in such a manner that feeding terminals (33a, 33b) are formed on a pair of side edges (31a, 31b) of a frame member (31) having an opening (32) on one side. A plurality of frames (30) are stacked such that the openings (32) alternately face upward and downward. The electrolytic membrane (20) is folded at counter edges (31c) of the frames (30) and held between the adjacent frames (30) , thereby constituting a stereoscopically corrugated structure in a stacking direction of the frames (30).

  • Patent number: 5687576
Abstract: A water evaporation type cooling system equipped with a hermetically sealed housing and a solid electrolytic membrane placed to divide the hermetically sealed housing into first and second hermetically sealed spaces. Water is reservoired within the first hermetically sealed space, while a condenser is situated to communicate with the second hermetically sealed space. A direct-current voltage is applied to the solid electrolytic membrane, with the result that a water electrolytic reaction takes place on its first hermetically sealed space side surface, while a water production reaction occurs on its second hermetically sealed space side surface. Protons produced by the water electrolysis pass through the solid electrolytic membrane to contribute to a water production reaction. Steam within the first hermetically sealed space is transferred to the second hermetically sealed space whereas the oxygen within the second hermetically sealed space is shifted to the first hermetically sealed space.
