  • Patent number: 6344875
Abstract: An electronic camera and method of operating an electronic camera which detects whether an external device such as a personal computer is properly connected to the camera and in a state which permits communication. The camera monitors a data terminal ready (DTR) signal of an RS-232 connection in order to determine that the external device is properly connected and in a state which permits communication. Once the proper connection is detected, the camera can either transmit or receive images and/or audio from the external device. Accordingly, a specific switch which places the camera in a communication mode can be eliminated. Further, a single switch may be utilized for both controlling whether the camera records or plays images when there is no device connected, and which controls whether the camera transmits or receives images and/or audio when an external device is determined to be connected.

  • Patent number: 5913027
Abstract: In a computer system including a plurality of mobile code processing systems, the user of a computer can conduct data processing without paying attention to any mobile code processing system received or to any mobile code processing system in the computer. A program repository is arranged in a network such that a plurality of program codes are stored therein in association with the mobile code processing systems. When a mobile code is transferred from a source computer to a destination computer, a name of the processing system is added to the transfer data. On receiving the mobile code, the computer determines whether or not the processing system is provided for the code. If the processing system is missing, the computer acquires from the repository a program code executable in the processing system of the computer. If the processing system is present, the computer executes the mobile code in accordance with the processing system.

  • Patent number: 5887171
Abstract: A document management system a high extendability, flexibility, and stability capable of solving a problem that, as an agent-oriented paradigm system extends, the number of agents increases and indefinite factors increase. In the system configuration with an object execution environment implemented with an object-oriented function and an agent execution environment implemented with an agent-oriented function, a unit for changing an agent into an object is provided for using the agent execution environment as the object execution environment. With this configuration, a system developer can use the merits of both the object- and agent-oriented paradigms by implementing a function necessary for stable operation by an object and a function with high change occurrence frequency by an agent.

  • Patent number: 5832470
Abstract: A document information classification method and apparatus for classifying a document group and arranging a classified result hierarchically on the basis of key words given to the document group and words appearing in documents without dependence on a prescribed classification system. The document group of a document data base and a key word group given to each document of a key word data base are managed by a data management unit. A document classification unit classifies documents into folders on the basis of individual key words and stores them. The folders having similar document groups are integrated. Whether the integration is effective or not is judged upon integration. Whether the inside of the integrated folder and the inside of unintegrated folders can be classified in detail or not is judged and a hierarchical classification system is prepared. A classified result is produced in CRT by a classified result output unit to provide environment in which a user can read out the classified result.

  • Patent number: 5815205
Abstract: An electronic camera which detachably connects to a communication interface which allows the camera to communicate with an electronic device such as a personal computer. The communication interface includes circuitry which converts signals utilized by a microprocessor within the camera which are usually within a range of 0 to +5 volts to a level which is utilized to communicate with the computer. When an RS-232 connection is used to communicate between the camera and the computer, the circuitry within the communication interface converts the signals utilized by the camera to a level between -15 and -5 volts for a low signal and +5 and +15 volts for a high signal. The communication interface includes a mechanical connector having two latching mechanisms which connect to receiving members of the camera. The latching mechanisms pivot and are both moved by a single pushing member.

  • Patent number: 5815201
Abstract: An electronic camera for connection to an external device such as a personal computer. The camera captures both images and audio which are associated with the images. The image and associated audio are written into a memory of the camera along with information describing the relationship between the image and audio. In this manner, the image can be played or presented at the same time as the audio is presented to a user. When the image and associated audio are transmitted out of the camera to an external device such as a personal computer, no information is transmitted describing the relationship between the image and audio. The image and audio are received by the external device and written into memory. The relationship between the image and audio can be determined by the fact that the image and audio were transmitted at the same time as a unit of information.

  • Patent number: 5568640
Abstract: A document retrieving method in a document management system which manages documents, using a computer. The classification of documents is managed in accordance with a plurality of node trees constructed in a hierarchical structure. Each document is related to at least one node among a plurality of nodes in the node trees. In retrieval, an OR merge operation is performed on documents related to all the nodes ranging from the target node and extending through all lower nodes linked directly and indirectly to the target mode of a designated node tree to form a collection of documents. When a different node tree is designated, a similar OR operation is performed on documents related to all the nodes ranging from the target node to lower nodes linked directly and indirectly to the target node to create another collection of documents. These steps are repeated and an AND-marge operation is performed on the obtained collections of documents to create and output a final collection of documents.
