  • Patent number: 11104449
Abstract: A significant weather advisory system for an aircraft is disclosed. The system is configured to identify, from strategic weather data, current significant weather events from weather impacted areas projected to be intersected by a geographical corridor around a projected flight path and projected to occur during determined time intervals during which the airborne vehicle is expected to pass through the weather impacted areas; compare the current significant weather events to previously identified significant weather events and detect significant changes between the current significant weather events and the previously identified significant weather events; and generate a notification for display to the flight crew via an onboard notification system that identifies the detected significant change when a significant change is detected.

  • Patent number: 10957207
Abstract: Systems and methods for associating critical flight reference data with a flight path vector symbol are provided. The system displays a continuously updated image with a symbol for a flight path vector. The system displays a first readout arrangement, in which the airspeed indicator and the altitude indicator are (i) each located in relationship to boundary edges of the display device, and (ii) their locations are substantially static. The system detects a deviation between the flight path vector and the heading, and when the deviation exceeds a threshold, the system toggles to a second readout arrangement, in which the airspeed indicator and the altitude indicator are (i) each located a distance measured from the flight path vector, and (ii) dynamically change location responsive to movement of the flight path vector.

  • Patent number: 10883851
Abstract: Improved systems and methods for dynamic readouts on a primary flight display are provided. The system includes a computer system configured to receive and process aircraft status data and flight plan data to command a display system to overlay on the image, (i) an analog indicator of the airspeed, (ii) an analog indicator of altitude, (iii) a digital airspeed indicator, and (iv) a digital altitude indicator. The system continuously determines whether steady flight conditions are occurring. Steady flight conditions include one or both of: constant airspeed and constant rate of change of airspeed. When the steady flight conditions are occurring, (i) and (ii) are removed from the image. When the steady flight conditions are no longer occurring, (i) and (ii) again overlaid on the image.

  • Patent number: 10861341
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for prompting a pilot of an aircraft of reporting waypoint tasks. The method comprises retrieving compulsory reporting waypoints that are located along a stored planned flightpath for the aircraft. Pre-defined waypoint tasks are also retrieved for each compulsory reporting waypoint. The location of the aircraft is tracked along the planned flightpath and an alert for the pilot as the aircraft reaches each compulsory reporting waypoint. The alert prompts the pilot of the waypoint tasks by displaying the alert on a visual display device located on-board the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10794725
Abstract: Technologically improved vision systems and methods that provide enhanced water encoding are provided. The vision system receives terrain data from a terrain database and aircraft state data from a navigation system. The vision system commands a display system to display a map image that is reflective of a view from a current location of the platform. The vision system processes terrain data and aircraft state data to identify a water feature, determine a distance between the platform and the water feature, and determine a textural representation for the water feature. The textural representation comprises a symbol and an associated symbol pattern. The vision system commands a display system to overlay, on the map image, the water feature with the textural representation.

  • Patent number: 10569898
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating an alert for an aircraft potentially exceeding speed limits in airspace with speed limitations. The method comprises retrieving a flight plan for the aircraft and identifying airspace with speed limitations along the flight plan. A speed profile is generated based on the in-flight aircraft's current position, speed and trajectory. Any predicted speed violations are identified by comparing the speed profile with the airspace with speed limitations along the flight plan. A predictive time window is calculated that allows for the in-flight aircraft to decelerate sufficiently to comply with the speed limits of the airspace with speed limitations. The predictive time window includes a zone for the aircraft to reduce its airspeed and a reaction buffer zone to allow the aircrew sufficient time to comply with instructions to decelerate the aircraft. Finally, an alert is generated for the crew of the in-flight aircraft upon entering the predictive time window.

  • Publication number: 20190228668
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for automatically predicting a surface movement path of an aircraft. The method comprises collecting historical aircraft trajectory data from an empirical aircraft path database. Next, aircraft trajectory paths for a designated airport are mapped based on the historical aircraft trajectory data and map data for the designated airport. Different aircraft trajectory paths are each assigned a weight for the designated airport. A graphical display is then generated for each of the aircraft trajectory paths for the designated airport along with a table that identifies a most probable terminal area and entry node for use by the aircraft at the designated airport.

  • Patent number: 10290217
Abstract: Improved systems and methods for the evaluation of runway changes that analyze the effect of the runway change on relevant factors, and provide intuitive visual feedback of the analysis, are provided. The provided systems and methods depict the original runway and the new runway, side by side, in a pictorial representation. Additionally, a selectable group of relevant factors for each runway is determined. The pictorial representation is overlaid with one or more symbolic indicators that distinctly demark each of the factors, alphanumeric descriptors may also be displayed alongside the symbolic indicators. The provided systems and methods additionally generate a tabular display of the information and factors. The tabular display provides a side by side comparison of the old runway, the new runway, and the relevant factors.

  • Patent number: 10216471
Abstract: A vehicle system and method are provided. The system includes a processor configured to compare received data representative of a current attitude with predetermined bank, nose up, and nose down values to determine that an occurrence of unusual attitude is currently underway. Upon determining that an occurrence of unusual attitude conditions is currently underway, the system and method generate display signals that command and control a display system to render roll angle alert symbology. The roll angle alert symbology includes a tracing arrowhead that more clearly shows the direction to recover from unusual attitude conditions. Based in part on the tracing nature of the arrowhead, provided technological improvements are observable on display systems that are monochrome, as well as those with color. In various embodiments, color attributes and confining the dynamic tracing performed by the arrowhead more clearly inform a pilot of the roll recovery direction to recover from unusual attitude conditions.

  • Patent number: 10214300
Abstract: A system and method are provided that improve upon existing aircraft display systems by generating and updating an overrun image that may be overlaid on a variety of panoramic and landscape images on a display device. The overrun image displays stopping locations for all relevant available stopping devices, as determined from the far end of the selected runway. In addition, the aircraft display system determines an advisory zone on the selected runway and presents limited symbols and images in and near the advisory zone that indicate distances and relevant information.
