  • Patent number: 10011139
Abstract: A device for processing a spine of a book block suspended from a circulating clamp on a conveyor of a bookbinding machine includes a processing device positioned opposite the clamp and facing the spine of the book block. A tensioning device is includes a fixed support roller to act perpendicularly on one side of the clamp and an overhang of the book block, and an adjustable pressing roller to act perpendicularly on another side of the clamp and the overhang of the book block. A controlled adjusting device is connected to the adjustable pressing roller. The controlled adjusting device adjusts the adjustable pressing roller based on a thickness of the book block.

  • Patent number: 8235639
Abstract: A method for producing adhesive-bound book blocks from gathered signatures for which the individual signatures forming a non-bound book block are supplied while positioned on the spine on a transfer section to an opened conveying clamp on a perfect binder and are subsequently held while clamped in by the closed conveying clamp along the flat outer surfaces. The gathered signatures of a book block are released in an additional conveying section from the conveying clamp in order to be aligned while guided. Prior to leaving the conveying section for aligning the signatures, the signatures are clamped in once more by the conveying clamps along the flat outer surfaces, so that they can be conveyed to further processing locations.

  • Patent number: 8206073
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for pressing a casing or a slip-fold against an adhesive-covered back and adjacent side flanks of a book block, which is conveyed while clamped into a circulating clamp of a perfect binder with the book back projecting downward. The apparatus includes a back pressing device for pressing the casing against the adhesive-covered back and a flank pressing device for pressing the casing against the side flanks. These devices are driven synchronized with the timing of the book binder clamps for conveying the book blocks. At least the flank pressing device is assigned an individual drive unit which is connected to a control device of the perfect binder.

  • Patent number: 8052133
Abstract: A method and arrangement is provided for producing an adhesive-bound printed item composed of a plurality of printed products. The printed products are gathered into loose book blocks along a first conveying section of a conveying track for a circulating conveyor while positioned transverse to a conveying direction and inclined counter to the conveying direction. The book blocks are then accelerated in an additional section of the circulating conveyor to obtain a larger divisional spacing between the printed products. The book blocks are transferred from the additional section of the circulating conveyor to clamps of a transporter and pivoted to an upright position where one side edge is approximately parallel to the conveying direction. The book blocks are transferred from the clamps of the transporter into respective circulating conveying clamps of an adhesive binder.

  • Patent number: 8038137
Abstract: A device to supply flat products to produce print matter that includes a machine frame, a guide arrangement coupled to the machine frame, and a conveyor with a conveying direction arranged on the machine frame. The device additionally includes at least one sheet feeder arranged along the conveyor to supply a respective flat product to the conveyor in a clocked operation. The sheet feeder includes a stacking device to accommodate a plurality of flat products and a charging device coupled to the stacking device to remove a respective flat product from the stacking device. At least one of the stacking device or the charging device is operatively arranged with the guide arrangement to be displaceable to a non-operating position on a side of the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 7997844
Abstract: A method of producing perfect-bound printed products formed from several printed products, includes feeding printed products, which are gathered to form loose book blocks, are fed by feeders, which are arranged along a conveying line and are driven at least approximately with synchronous timing, to a conveyance device that has receiving devices that follow one another at regular intervals, and are transferred by this conveyance device into a gluing machine. The gluing machine, which is arranged downstream of the conveyance device and also has a conveying function, is run until it is empty in the event of an interruption of a processing operation by discontinuing further feeding of printed products to the receiving devices of the conveyance device and further feeding of loose book blocks to the gluing machine while the gluing machine is emptying.
