  • Patent number: 5045426
Abstract: A coated cellulosic web product and coating composition which provides enhanced toner adhesion for documents printed using noncontact printing devices such as laser printers is provided. The toner adhesion enhancing coated cellulosic product includes a cellulosic web having first and second major surfaces with at least one of the major surfaces having coated thereon a polymeric toner adhesion-enhancing composition comprising a generally transparent copolymer of styrene and acrylic acid having a glass transition temperature of between about -16 and 22 degrees C and from about 1 to about 5% by weight zinc as a cross-linking agent for said copolymer. The web may be either continuous or in sheet form. The toner adhesion-enhancing composition may also optionally include a coloring agent and a plasticizing agent.

  • Patent number: 4614757
Abstract: A chelate of zinc with 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone is obtained in a solvent-free system for use as a color developer in carbonless copy paper systems. The 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone is solubilized in an aqueous medium by reacting with a water-soluble amine. A mineral matrix is then added followed by the addition of a zinc halide, preferably zinc bromide, to cause the chelate of zinc with 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone onto and within the structure of the mineral matrix. After removal of any excess zinc cations, and addition of any desired fillers, a binder is added and the composition coated onto the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4556687
Abstract: A developer system comprising a zinc chelate of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone is provided for developing colorless dye precursors used in carbonless copy paper systems. The system preferably includes a styrene-methacrylic acid copolymer and a mineral matrix, especially sodium aluminosilicate, which promotes reactivity of the chelate. The developer system is particularly useful in coating compositions for carbonless second sheets.

  • Patent number: 4337968
Abstract: A very thin film of acidic color developing material which reacts with a dye precursor to form a color upon contact therewith is obtained in a substantially spongy capillary-like film firmly adhered to the paper substrate without diffusing thereinto in accordance with the present invention. The film contains a phenolic resin, and amorphous lipohilic silica, preferably pyrogenic hydrophobic silica, and a fatty alcohol, preferably cetyl alcohol. The composition further preferably includes a non-volatile solvent. This composition not only provides excellent color-forming ability with a very thin film which adheres firmly to the paper, but may be applied to the paper with a standard printing press.

  • Patent number: 4060262
Abstract: A sensitized record sheet for developing useful color in oily, colorless, chromogenic dye-precursor inks applied thereto. Said record sheet is acid-reacting and bears a liquid ink comprising a non-evaporable liquid organic solvent having dissolved therein an acidic phenolic resin and a lower alkyl gallate.
