    Abstract: A fiber glass board useful as a form board for lightweight cement and the like is strengthened by providing for the fibers to be predominantly oriented generally parallel to the major faces of the board in directions both parallel to and transversely of the dimension of the board corresponding to the process direction. A downstream conveyor which moves the blanket of fibers through the curing oven moves faster than the collection conveyor, thereby producing a drawing effect on the blanket and causing the desired fiber alignment. A glass fiber mat is applied to one or both major faces of the blanket prior to movement through the oven to provide additional stiffness to the board.

    Abstract: An insulated window comprising a layer of insulation between two transparent sheets of glazing. The sheets are glued to the insulation layer and then separated so as to increase the thickness of the insulation, thereby providing a way to reduce the density of the insulation beyond the minimum density that can be manufactured. The light transmission of the insulation is substantially unaffected, but the thermal insulating value of the insulation is improved.

    Abstract: A laminate of foil and kraft paper is adhered to the upper face of fiber glass insulation so that the exposed foil reflects radiant heat entering the attic through the roof of a building structure. Relatively thick kraft paper supports the very thin layer of foil without causing a fire hazard due to the use of an inorganic adhesive, such as sodium silicate, to bond the two together and also due to the use of a fire retardant water-based adhesive to bond the foil-kraft laminate to the fiber glass. The laminate is preferably perforated to prevent it from functioning as a vapor barrier.

    Abstract: An economical and uniform fibrous glass mat displaying improved tear strength and a wet forming process of making such a mat is disclosed herein. The mat, which is especially suitable as a carrier material in the manufacture of asphalt shingles or other such roofing products, includes a web of base fibers comprising individual monofilament glass fibers and reinforcement fibers in the form of glass fiber bundles interspersed throughout the web in a randomly oriented pattern. The mat also includes a binder substance to assist in holding the base fibers and reinforcement fiber bundles together.
