Abstract: A method and system for delivering alternative material to a designated recipient of a mail piece. A user system scans a mail piece to read an identifier affixed thereto. The system uses information in the identifier to access a database and download alternative digital material provided by a mailer. The alternative material is then delivered electronically to a designated recipient of the mail piece.

Abstract: Methods and systems that allow a sender of a mail piece to easily specify delivery instructions and/or services for a mail piece and that allows mail processing systems to identify and account for the specified delivery instructions and/or services without the need for any pre-sorting or input of information prior to processing the mail piece. The sender of a mail piece provides a marking on the mail piece representing instructions desired for delivering the mail piece. A mail processing system utilized to process the mail piece reads the marking provided on the mail piece, and based on the type/color of the marking, interprets the delivery instructions requested by the sender. The mail processing system processes the mail piece according to the instructions requested by the sender based on the marking provided on the mail piece by the sender.

Abstract: A system for providing a selected digital medium to a customer on request. The selected digital medium has a selected title recorded thereon. The system includes a data storage device that stores a digital copy of available titles, a digital recording device, a blank digital media storage unit for storing blank digital media, a digital media inventory storage unit, and a digital media dispenser. The digital media inventory storage unit stores for available titles a predetermined number of digital media having a particular title recorded thereon. After the selected digital medium is requested by the customer, the digital recording device receives a digital copy of the selected title or another title and records the selected title or other title onto one of the blank digital media, which is then stored in the digital media inventory storage unit.

Then, delivery point data is accessed corresponding to the delivery point identifier, and mail delivery services are provided in response to the delivery point data. The delivery point data are modifiable by a recipient who receives physical mail at the delivery point, and the delivery point data includes recipient preferences.

The value-added services data includes addressing information for a return receipt to the mailer. A digital postmark which includes the postal data and the value-added services data is created. At delivery of the mailpiece, the digital postmark is read and the value-added services data is captured from the read digital postmark. A confirmation message is sent to the mailer and/or other interested third parties, in accordance with information contained in the value-added services data.

An indication of fulfillment of one or more mailing requirements associated with a mailpiece identifier can be received from one or more service providers. Payment can be received from the mailer, and remuneration can be forwarded to an exchange or one or more service providers for services related to the fulfillment of the one or more mailing requirements.
