  • Patent number: 11810785
Abstract: A method of performing regional heating of a substrate by electromagnetic induction heating. The method may include applying a semiconductor film to the substrate and controllably energizing a coil positioned near the substrate. The energized coil(s) thereby generates a magnetic flux, which induces a current in the substrate and/or the semiconductor film, thereby heating the substrate and/or semiconductor film. The method may also include relative motion between the coil and the substrate to provide translation heating of the semiconductor film. Additionally, a crystal seeding mechanism may be employed to further control the crystallization process.

  • Publication number: 20060283617
Abstract: Three specific problems or needs related to deployment of fiber optic repeater distributed antenna systems are addressed by providing a particularly configured enclosure or cabinet adapted to protect repeaters from vandalism, enclose power components directly below the repeaters, and provide uninhibited ventilation. The cabinet includes a first cabinet portion partially enclosing a first chamber in which the repeater is receivable, a second cabinet portion at least partially enclosing a second chamber in which the power source components are receivable, and a door mounted to the first cabinet portion so as to be movable between a closed position, in which access to the first chamber is prevented, and an open position, providing access to the first chamber. A locking mechanism by which the door can be securely retained in the closed position includes a handle which is redundantly securable in an inoperative position, thereby preventing locking mechanism operation and precluding access to the first chamber.

  • Patent number: 5712011
Abstract: A tug-resistant unit in which the first and second relatively inextensible members overlap one another. A shear-thickening composition having dilatant flow characteristics is disposed between the first and the second inextensible members. The composition provides a variable resistance to linear movement of the second inextensible member relative to the first inextensible member as a function of the shear forces exerted upon the dilatant fluid. The inextensible members may be enclosed within an extensible enclosure to form an elastic strap. Alternatively, one inextensible member may form a portion of the enclosure while the second inextensible member is disposed within the strap so as to overlap the first inextensible portion of the enclosure. The strap provides low resistance to slowly-varying tensile forces and high resistance to rapidly-changing tensile forces, thereby moderating the velocity of relative motion between the ends.

  • Patent number: 5599290
Abstract: A garment, in one embodiment of the invention, reduces the risk of bone fracture of a human or animal subject due to impact forces on a vulnerable region having a bone part near the skin surface when the vulnerable region is proximate to a soft tissue region lacking a bone part near the skin surface. The garment has an arrangement for shunting a substantial portion of the impact energy from the vulnerable region to the soft tissue region, where such energy may be safely absorbed and/or dissipated. In a further embodiment, there is utilized a dilatent material that is relatively stiff near the time of impact and relatively fluid at other times. Related methods are also provided.
