  • Publication number: 20180070254
Abstract: A method for detecting interference in a wireless system is disclosed. The method includes receiving an uplink signal at a remote radio head in a distributed base station, passing the uplink signal from the remote radio head to a baseband unit over a front-haul communication link as baseband IQ data, and intercepting the baseband IQ data at a tester coupled between the remote radio head and the baseband unit. Processing of the IQ data is performed to determine whether an interfering signal is present in the uplink signal.

  • Publication number: 20180017663
Abstract: A method for detecting the presence of a signal in a frequency spectrum is provided. The method includes receiving the frequency spectrum. The power spectral density of the received frequency spectrum is estimated. A plurality of frequency bins are segmented for the frequency spectrum based on the estimated power spectral density. For segments with an estimated power spectral density above a first threshold, a radar spectral signature matching algorithm is applied to detect the presence of the signal and for segments with a power estimate below the first threshold and above a second threshold, additional techniques are applied to detect the presence of the signal.

  • Patent number: 9715001
Abstract: A base station includes an antenna, a radio transceiver, an optical splitter, an optical-to-electrical converter, and a computation module. The antenna may be mounted to a tower and may be configured to receive an RF signal. The radio transceiver may be coupled to the antenna and mounted near the top of the tower. The transceiver may be configured to convert the RF signal to a baseband signal for transmission over a fiber optic link as a first optical signal. The splitter may be configured to split the first optical signal, received via the fiber optic link, into a second optical signal and a third optical signal. The optical-to-electrical converter may be configured to convert the second optical signal into an electrical digital signal including in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) data. The computation module may be configured to compute, based on the I/Q data, signal measurements for location of a mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20170064514
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to systems and methods that may be used to increase the information content of a mobile device so as to locate, track, or determine the behavior of a mobile device and/or the user of the mobile device. Separate pieces of information (information snippets) may be aggregated over time to form information linkages. The snippets and linkages may be associated with a time stamp and/or a time frame. The snippets and linkages may be associated with a probability value which may be updated as more information is acquired. The snippets and linkages may be aggregated with, for example a building floor plan to provide more complete informational description of the mobile device and/or the behavior of the user of the mobile device (information map).

  • Patent number: 9479380
Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods for identifying a signal that is a product of two or more other signals. In an embodiment, the presence of intermodulation distortion in a communication system is determined by comparing a cyclic autocorrelation function (“CAF”) of a complex envelop of signal content in a frequency bin, comparing the determined CAF with the CAF for a known signal type, and comparing a frequency of the signal content with the frequency of an RF channel in the communication system.

  • Patent number: 9331798
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a mobile device in a communications network having one or more proximity sensors. A request to locate the mobile device may be received and at least one of the proximity sensors tasked to receive a signal transmission from the mobile device. One or more signal characteristics of the signal transmission from the mobile device may be measured by each tasked proximity sensor, and a location of the mobile device determined as a function of the measured characteristics. This may be accomplished by associating a fixed location with each tasked proximity sensor, and then determining the location of the mobile device as a function of one of the associated fixed locations.

  • Publication number: 20150326334
Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods for identifying a signal that is a product of two or more other signals. In an embodiment, the presence of a particular signal is determined and identified by applying a cyclostationarity detection technique, such as comparing a cyclic autocorrelation function of a product signal with the cyclic autocorrelation function of at least one of the signals which formed the product signal.

  • Patent number: 9173060
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a mobile device in a communications network. A set of network measurement reports (NMR) may be provided for a region in the network. NMRs in the first set may be clustered as a function of observed measurement information in the NMRs. A candidate NMR for a mobile device may be received, and the candidate NMR may then be associated with a selected cluster of NMRs. The candidate NMR and a second set of NMRs may then be clustered, and a location of the mobile device determined as a function of the clustered candidate NMR and second set of NMRs, where the NMRs in the second set are associated with the selected cluster.
