  • Patent number: 9109220
Abstract: An environmental remediation material and method for making the same which include processing an organic material to increase the internal surface and surface pore area thereof through pyrolysis, coating the pyrolyzed material with a non-polar substance to enhance the material's oleophilicity, and applying secondary processing treatments designed to optimize the material for preselected chemical remediation applications. The remediation material is insoluble in aqueous environments, free of environmentally hazardous chemicals or compounds and readily transportable and disposable following use.

  • Patent number: 8156654
Abstract: The invention provides a chain saw attachment for unobstructed cutting of smaller objects with diameters less than three inches and larger objects with diameters greater than three inches. The attachment includes a set of prongs that vertically extend at an acute angle from a cover above the cutting teeth of the chain saw blade to a specified distance below the blade. The prongs stabilize small objects from whipping and dragging when engaged by the cutting teeth and facilitate the cutting of brush with diameter equal to height of the blade. Moreover, the cover does not extend the full length of the blade to allow for fully unobstructed cuts using the uncovered section of the blade. The cover increase safe operation of the chain saw and distributes stress from a particular prong over the entire attachment.

  • Publication number: 20110278150
Abstract: A system and method for the continuous production of carbonaceous pyrolysis by-products are provided which include one or more pyrolysis reaction chambers adapted to receive a wide variety of feedstock materials, including biomass feedstock. System operating parameters including feedstock input rate, atmosphere composition and flow rate, temperature, reaction mixture stirring and agitation rate are selectively independently controllable to produce an end by-product having desired properties for specific applications, and gaseous reaction by-products may be recycled as a fuel for the pyrolysis reaction, thereby enhancing overall system operating efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20030221363
Abstract: I claim a process for producing a superior fuel from biomass by first torrefying the biomass and then densifying it to make pellets, cubes or logs with the steps of: heating biomass to a temperature of 150-300 C and preferably to 200-280 C in a heating device, and densification of the resulting torrefied biomass in a device that compresses the hot biomass to make pellets, cubes or logs. The process can be partially or totally self heating by burning the gaseous products of torrefaction in the oven surrounding the torrefication apparatus. The energy required for size reduction after torrefaction is greatly reduced and the energy required for densification is also greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 5110785
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a novel composition of matter which is prepared by subjecting at least one woodlike particle, such as a sawdust particle and preferably selected quantities of sawdust particles to a special treatment. Each particle has a cellular structure including a plurality of interconnected, generally tubular cell walls composed in part of hemicellulose that are subjected to a selectively controlled thermolytic heating above about 280.degree. C. but not above about 380.degree. C. and preferably between 300+ C. and 360.degree. C. to cause the hemicellulose to be converted to an oil-like oleophilic and hydrophobic substance on the cell walls and reduce the thickness of the cell walls to render the particle and particles oleophilic and hydrophobic. The product floats on water, absorbs oil, for absorbing hydrocarbons on the surface of water, and is an improved fuel both without and with the hydrocarbons.
