  • Patent number: 8074902
Abstract: A nozzle for dispensing a random pattern of liquid adhesive filaments generally comprises an adhesive shim plate positioned between first and second air shim plates. The first air shim plate includes air slots configured to direct pressurized process air along a first angle relative to the adhesive shim plate, and the second air shim plate includes air slots configured to direct pressurized process air along a second angle relative to the adhesive shim plate. The first angle is different than the second angle so that the first and second air shim plates direct the pressurized process air asymmetrically toward adhesive filaments discharging from liquid slots in the adhesive shim plate.

  • Publication number: 20100327074
Abstract: A nozzle for dispensing a random pattern of liquid adhesive filaments. The nozzle may include first and second air shim plates, an adhesive shim plate and first and second separating shim plates. The first and second air shim plates each have respective pairs of air slots. Each air slot has a process air inlet and a process air outlet and the air slots of each pair converge toward one another such that the process air inlets are farther apart than the process air outlets in each pair. The adhesive shim plate includes a plurality of liquid slots each with a liquid outlet. Four process air outlets are associated with each of the liquid outlets. The process air slots are adapted to receive pressurized process air and the liquid slots are adapted to receive pressurized liquid adhesive. The pressurized process air discharges from each group of the four process air outlets and forms a zone of turbulence for moving the filament of liquid adhesive discharging from the associated liquid outlet in a random pattern.

  • Patent number: 7147136
Abstract: A device for dispensing fluid material onto a substrate including a base body with a flow channel for receiving the fluid material and a movable valve body positioned in the flow channel. The valve body is movable in a downstream direction into an open position to release a flow of the fluid material into the flow channel and is movable in an upstream direction into a closed position to interrupt the flow of the fluid material into the flow channel. A drive device moves the valve body between the open position and the closed position. A cylindrical chamber is positioned in the flow channel and the valve body includes a piston movable within the cylindrical chamber. The piston is sealed within the cylindrical chamber in such a way that when the piston moves in a first direction within the cylindrical chamber, the fluid material is displaced from the flow channel and when the piston is moved in a second direction opposite to the first direction, the fluid material is drawn into the flow channel.

  • Patent number: 6689214
Abstract: An apparatus for applying fluid to a substrate which is movable relative to the apparatus. A slotted nozzle assembly of the apparatus communicates with a fluid supply and includes an elongated slot with an outlet aperture. The length of the slot may be varied using a stopper which can move in the slot and seal it off laterally. • Publication number: 20040003772
Abstract: A device and a process for delivering fluid to moving webs, especially for delivering an adhesive to one or more strips. An applicator head can be moved in an essentially horizontal plane by an adjusting mechanism from an operating position, in which the discharge orifice of the nozzle is located in the region of the path of movement of the web, to a maintenance position, in which the applicator head is horizontally distanced from the path of movement of the web. The process is characterized by the fact that the mass flow or volume flow of the gas stream fed to and discharged from an application device is controlled as a function of the relative speed.

  • Patent number: 6164568
Abstract: A device for applying free-flowing material to a movable substrate (1), especially for intermittent application of liquid adhesive. At least one supply channel (46) feeds free-flowing material and at least one nozzle unit (8) with at least one output channel is connected with the supply channel (46) and ends in an output orifice for delivering material. A valve mechanism interrupts the flow of material and includes a movable valve body (14) and a valve seat (44). The valve body (14) interacts with the valve seat (44) in such a way that the flow of material is interrupted by movement of the valve body (14) to a closed position and released by movement into an open position. The valve body (14) comes into contact with the valve seat (44) to interrupt the flow of material through a movement contrary to the direction of flow of the material.
