  • Patent number: 5106545
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for increasing the orientation rate during manufacturing a heat-shrinkable (oriented) polymeric film including: (a) introducing a pro-rad agent to a cross-linkable polymer by blending the cross-linking agent with the cross-linkable polymer, (b) extruding the blended cross-linkable polymer, (c) subjecting the extruded polymer to irradiation, (d) orienting the extruded polymer in at least one direction, and (e) recovering an oriented polymeric film, wherein (f) both the original amount of pro-rad agent and the dosage of irradiation are to an extent sufficient to provide an amount of cross-linking effective to accomplish an increased orientation rate during the orientation step.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 22, 1990
Date of Patent: April 21, 1992
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.
    Inventor: Thomas C. Warren
  • Patent number: 5089352
Abstract: Described is the presence of both a chemical cross linking agent and irradiation such as electron beam irradiation, in the manufacturing process for making an oriented, i.e. heat-shrinkable, polymeric film. The presence of both results in an amount of cross-linking that is effective to accomplish an increased orientation rate during manufacturing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 1990
Date of Patent: February 18, 1992
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.
Inventors: Steven B. Garland, Thomas C. Warren

  • Patent number: 4853265
Abstract: Disclosed is a heat-shrinkable, oriented, multi-layer packaging film. The film has at least two layers comprising EVA. One of the EVA layers is of EVA having a melt index different from the melt index of the EVA of the other layer or layers.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 1, 1989
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.

  • Patent number: 4837084
Abstract: Disclosed is a heat-shrinkable film suitable for making bags and pouches. The film has at least one layer comprising a copolymer of ethylene and an alphaolefin with six or more carbon atoms per molecule, said copolymer having a density of about 0.910 g/cc of less and a melt index of about 2 or less.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4820557
Abstract: Disclosed is a high abuse-resistance film suitable for making bags and pouches. The film has at least one layer comprising a linear copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefin with a density of about 0.935 g/cc or less. The copolymer has a comparatively lower I.sub.10 /I.sub.2 ratio than the corresponding ethylene/alpha-olefin with the same comonomer and essentially the same density and essentially the same melt index at condition 190/2.16.

  • Patent number: 4264018
Abstract: Collapsing bladder positive expulsion devices are provided in which the bladder itself is configured to have areas of longitudinal stiffening such that upon the application of external pressure the bladder can be caused to collapse inwardly upon itself in a predetermined fashion without the requirement for a separate internal support structure.
