  • Publication number: 20040219472
Abstract: A uni-twin orthodontic bracket defining a facial surface has a bracket base defining a central bracket section and mesial and distal tie-wing sections and defines a active precision edgewise slot having mesial and distal ends and having parallel slot side surfaces and a slot bottom surface and adapted to receive an edgewise archwire in force transmitting relation therein. A mounting surface is defined by the bracket base and is oriented at a desired torque angle with respect to the facial surface and the parallel slot side surfaces. The mounting surface is adapted to be fixed in relation to the facial surface of a patient's tooth and positions the parallel slot side surfaces at a desired torque angle. The mesial and distal bracket sections define mesial and distal tie-wings and define archwire relief areas establishing clearance with an edgewise archwire.

  • Patent number: 4812118
Abstract: Apparatus for accurately placing orthodontic brackets on the lingual or labial surface of a model of a patient's maloccluded teeth in conjunction with an indirect bonding procedure or the like. A model support incorporates an immovable base forming a spherical surface segment which receives a complimentary spherical surface segment of a movable model platform thus providing for rotation of the platform in all planes of space about a centroid region. The maloccluded model is placed on the movable platform with a selected tooth thereof located at the central region of a sphere of which the spherical surface segments form a part. A tooth orienting template is releasably supported in fixed relation to the base structure and is selected according to the centrally positioned tooth of the model. The optimum position of the selected tooth relative to an optimum dental arch at the labial surface thereof is identified for bracket attachment to the labial surface.

  • Patent number: 4582487
Abstract: A lingual orthodontic appliance system for edgewise orthodontic therapy incorporating twin type brackets with single bracket interbracket width. Brackets for anterior teeth incorporate three tie wings in T-shaped orientation and brackets for bicuspids have two pairs of twin tie wings. Molar tube brackets retain the terminal extremities of the archwire and provide hooks for closing loops, tie-back loops, etc. In each case the archwire slot opens toward the occlusal permitting simple and efficient insertion and positioning of the archwire within the various brackets of the appliance system.

  • Patent number: 4573913
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket system for edgewise orthodontic therapy which is adapted for attachment to the lingual surface portions of a patient's teeth. The lingual orthodontic bracket system of this invention is designed to permit occlusal and mesial insertion of an edgewise archwire into precision archwire slots that are defined by the respective brackets of incisors, cuspids, bicuspids and molars. At least some of the lingual orthodontic brackets incorporate fulcrum controlled twin tie wing systems to permit efficient controlled rotation of the teeth as well as archwire tipping and torque activities. The lingual bracket system of this invention also incorporates a molar tube that is designed for mesio-occlusal insertion of the end portion of the edgewise archwire and also permits pivoting or rotation of the archwire about the molar tube structure so as to bring the archform portion thereof occlusally into properly seated relation with respect to the archwire slots of other brackets.

  • Patent number: 4531911
Abstract: A combination single/twin edgewise orthodontic bracket incorporating twin tie wings to promote twin ligating capability and over-rotation capability, and also incorporating an intermediate section of single bracket width that defines a precision archwire slot for receiving an edgewise archwire of rectangular cross sectional configuration to promote orthodontic treatment with the edgewise orthodontic technique. Relief grooves between the upper and lower tie wings extend outwardly from the ends of the precision archwire slot and are relieved in both width and depth as they traverse each tie wing mesially and distally to provide for efficient over-rotation control. The relief grooves cooperate with the central bracket section to permit the fullest expression of the advantages of interbracket width.
