  • Publication number: 20180275271
Abstract: Devices and methods for aiding a large area search for objects. A searcher transmits interrogation signals of long range relative to the return range to be received by a device at the target object. The target device responds with a ping signal modified to be more easily found by means of information contained in the interrogation signal. The information may be in the nature of the received signal or data encoded and embedded. The target device may use a microprocessor to do complex operations using the information from the interrogation signal and other information. Detection of a weak ping is facilitated by such means as being beamed in the direction of the interrogation, arriving at a predictable time, or having parameters adapted to values requested by the searcher. The object is then intercepted with help of the ping or other signals from the device.

  • Patent number: 10062028
Abstract: A system and method for counting persons using passages entering or exiting an area by analyzing vibrations in the floor with sensors and a machine learning system. The machine learning system uses a model, usually implemented as a neural network on a processor. The network is trained in levels and implemented in layers. Different levels classify and analyze vibrations by timing and frequency, by movements of persons, and by identity of persons The same person is identified by patterns in the vibrations and the vibrations are correlated to determine when a person uses a combination of passages and is thereby counted. Location information for the person is used to identify persons in places and doing activities of interest. The model may be trained on one processor and then downloaded to another processor for evaluation. Additional sensors and levels of training may be implemented on the latter processor.

  • Publication number: 20180174061
Abstract: A system and method of confirming compliance with rules. A machine learning model is trained in multiple levels with data concerning basic interpretation of sensors and with discovery of interesting patterns related to the area of application of the rules. The model is downloaded to a second processor which further trains the model with sensor data gathered after the download. Additional sensor data along with data from a server or other sources may be used as an input to the model and the second or another processor evaluates the model with the inputs to create outputs which determine the state of compliance. Specific applications include determination of compliance with a dress code and determination of sobriety in traffic stop situations. Other typical applications include compliance with sports regulations such as the one requiring a specific geometry of a lacrosse stick head pocket as checked after each goal.

  • Publication number: 20180156618
Abstract: A device and associated methods for escaping from a venue when a threat is detected is described. Venues can be buildings or outside areas and contain the area where the threat constitutes a hazard to a protected person. Threats include fire, terrorists, gunmen, explosion, collapse, loss of critical resources and crowd panic. The device incorporates a machine learning system implemented with a neural network or other pattern matching system and is trained in steps. Pre-training is based on general requirements such as edge-detection and audio analysis. Principles and data for venue layouts and human behavior can be included. The produced model is further trained from data gathered from sensors and servers after entry into the venue. Operation of the model produces warnings of threats and a plan of escape with steps of the plan communicated to the protected person by audio, visual or tactile sensory channels.

  • Publication number: 20180101757
Abstract: A method of confirming the identity of a person who issued a token to signify eligibility for a privilege. Possession token is confirmed to be by the same person by using sensors in the token which track the movements of the person. A machine learning system is trained to evaluate the sensor data detecting transfer of possession of the token. The state of continuous possession since the token was issued or set to an enabled state is confirmed and the privilege is granted. The method of identity confirmation is used in various contexts such as for to control entry to a location, use of a facility or service. It is also useful to determine continuous possession of a weapon to prevent misuse after the weapon is stolen, dropped or lost. Servers, beacons and outside sources of data or inputs to be measured by the sensor can also be used.

  • Publication number: 20170336163
Abstract: A method of supervising the safe carrying of firearms establishing rules for the situations where live ammunition is allowed to be in the chamber of the firearm. A supervisor checks that a dummy round is in the chamber of the firearm before the supervised person goes on duty outside of direct supervision. The dummy round is designed so that it records occasions when it is removed from the chamber. The recording is designed to last until checked by the supervisor. In some cases the dummy round undergoes changes that make the recording. In other cases the dummy round keeps count of the number of times it is removed from the chamber. In still other cases the dummy round communicates with a device which makes the recording. In each of these cases the system of supervision insures that live ammunition is only chambered when appropriate.

  • Publication number: 20170050637
Abstract: A miniature autonomous vehicle for operation on the public roads is disclosed. The small size allows efficiency for small payloads, but produces a danger of being overlooked by other vehicles. The size of the vehicle is less than driver operated vehicles and may be restricted to less than 200 pounds. Sensors determine the vehicles speed and the presence of environmental vehicles and use a processor to calculate the need for additional visibility. A visibility structure and support structure with lights or markers is controlled by the processor. The markers are controlled in their operation or position by the processor on the basis of the sensor data. Extending or raising and retracting or lowering the structure affects the air resistance and stability of the vehicle. The structure can be raised when the vehicle stops or is in traffic and lowered at road speeds in light or absent traffic.
