Publication number: 20110239605Abstract: In a swather formed by a tractor and attached heeder for cutting standing crop to form a swath, reel speed and optionally draper speed are controlled relative to ground speed by a control system including a manually operable input and display available to the operator. The control system can be used in an automatic mode to set an index value for an actual difference in reel speed relative to ground speed and to vary reel speed accordingly. In this mode a manually operable control varies the index. The control system can be switched by the operator to manual in which case the same control varies the actual reel speed. Minimum reel speed can be set by the same control and when operative the automatic system does not allow reel speed to fall below the minimum set value despite the values of index and ground speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2011Publication date: October 6, 2011Inventors: Rheal G. Remillard, James Thomas Dunn, Don MacGregor, Brent Gabriel, Leonard Bergman

Publication number: 20110108333Abstract: A suspension for a cab base on the frame of a swather tractor includes four dampened springs at the four corners with three links each pivoted on one end of the frame and the other end on the base. The links include two parallel links in the fore and aft direction parallel to the mechanical speed control link arm and one side to side link which constrain movement of the base against fore and aft movement and side to side movement parallel to the mechanical steering control link arm. This arrangement restricts movement of the base while allowing roll and pitch movements of the cab structure with the links arranged such that steering and ground speed are substantially unaffected when the cab moves on the suspension.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2010Publication date: May 12, 2011Inventor: James Thomas Dunn

Patent number: 7849952Abstract: A tractor has hydraulically driven wheels at a cab end and castor wheels at an engine end. It can be driven cab forward in a working mode with a header on the forward end. It is rotated to engine forward in the transport position for more stable higher speed travel. The driver's console is rotated in the cab with the steering and speed control elements moved with the seat for the driver to face forwards and its position is detected by switches. In the engine forward position for transportation, the control system detects the seat position and operates the controls for higher speed drive and to prevent operation of the header. The engine has a series of ratings which can be selected depending upon whether the header motor is engaged so that a highest engine speed is used only when the header is disengaged and the lower speed is used for higher fuel efficiency when the header is operating.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2007Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: MacDon Industries LtdInventors: Don MacGregor, Brent Gabriel, James Thomas Dunn, Leonard Bergman

Patent number: 7721830Abstract: A tractor has hydraulically driven wheels at a cab end and castor wheels at an engine end. It can be driven cab forward in a working mode with a header on the forward end. It is rotated to engine forward in the transport position for more stable higher speed travel. The driven wheels are driven by hydraulic motors each having their own drive pump the output of which is controlled by a cam plate. There is provided an automatic steering system having a guidance controller arranged to receive GPS position information and feed back signals and to generate output for controlling a hydraulic control valve for controlling flow in hydraulic fluid for a double acting hydraulic control cylinder arranged to actuate pivotal movement of the steering link member independently of the steering shaft.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2008Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: MacDon Industries Ltd.Inventors: James Thomas Dunn, Philip J. Patent number: 7721381Abstract: A cleaning pad is adapted to be releasably retained on a cleaning implement which includes on its cleaning head either multiple strips of pile-type fastener material or a plurality of attachment structures. The cleaning pad includes a top layer constructed of polyethylene and a bottom layer constructed of rayon. The top and bottom layers are affixed together along their peripheries by a bond line so as to define an enclosed pocket therebetween which is sized and shaped to receive a middle layer constructed of wood pulp paper. Multiple strips of hook-type fastener material are secured on the top layer and are adapted to releasably engage complimentary strips of pile-type fastener material on the cleaning implement. One or more mounting tabs are secured on the bottom layer and are adapted to releasably engage complimentary attachment structures on the cleaning implement. Each mounting tab can be disposed between a retracted, or folded, position and an extended, or unfolded, position.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2007Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Butler Home Products, LLCInventors: Robert Michelson, Thomas Dunn

Patent number: 7392124Abstract: In a swather formed by a tractor and attached header for cutting standing crop to form a swath, reel speed and optionally draper speed are controlled relative to ground speed by a control system including a manually operable input and display available to the operator. The control system acts to calibrateā the control output so that the control module has a secondary reference point as to how the PWM valve should function in the event of a speed sensor failure. Instead of using the speed sensor signal as a reference, the control system now compares the set point with the stored table (which may in one example provide 256 values) containing the PWM voltage/current values. These values correspond to a set of actual speed sensor values taken during the profiling procedure, plus extrapolated values equalling 256 points.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2005Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: MacDon Industries Ltd.Inventors: Don MacGregor, James Thomas Dunn

Patent number: 7306062Abstract: A tractor has hydraulically driven wheels at a cab end and castor wheels at an engine end. It can be driven cab forward in a working mode with a header on the forward end. It is rotated to engine forward in the transport position for more stable higher speed travel. The driven wheels are driven by hydraulic motors each having their own drive pump the output of which is controlled by a cam plate. The speed control is effected by a manually operable lever through a servo-cylinder which locates a speed control arm moving both cam plates to the set position. In a maximum speed position both cam plates are engaged against a stop. The steering is effected by moving the cam plates differentially to drive the wheels at different speeds. The piston rod of the servo-cylinder includes a spring relief so that the speed control arm can back off from the maximum position by moving the servo-cylinder body when steering in the maximum speed position.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2005Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: MacDon Industries Ltd.Inventor: James Thomas Dunn
