  • Patent number: 4260417
Abstract: A method of internal furnace desulfurization of molten metal is disclosed. Into a furnace lined with alumina-chrome refractory material, a charge is introduced comprised of scrap metal, alloying ingredients, and 0.5-3% by weight calcium carbide. The charge is melted and superheated to form a desired solution. The molten metal is then deslaged to remove sulfur and other impurities.
