  • Patent number: 7103591
Abstract: A method for data processing can include associating at least one descriptor dimension with a data item. The descriptor dimension can represent a scale between a first subject and at least a second subject. A dimension value can be associated with the descriptor dimension to quantify a relationship between the data item and the first and second subjects.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 2002
Date of Patent: September 5, 2006
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: Paul Asobayire, Dilip K. Barman, Stephen E. Bello, Anne E. Bomford, Ting D. Cheng, Thomas E. Donegan, John O. F. Long, R. Bruce Shearer

  • Patent number: 4859770
Abstract: Alpha-phase phthalocyanine pigment crystals are produced as substantially 100 percent isometric crystals by first activating a phthalocyanine pigment crude, followed by combining the activated crude with water and a surfactant, whereby a mixture is formed. The mixture is then milled so that a pigment slurry is formed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 19, 1988
Date of Patent: August 22, 1989
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas E. Donegan, Timothy G. Leary, Arvind S. Patil
  • Patent number: 4853039
Abstract: A process for making an aqueous pigment dispersion comprising substantially 100 percent .beta.-phase, isometric copper phthalocyanine pigment particles is carried out by activating a pigment crude, followed by fine-milling the activated crude in the presence of an emulsion, the fine-milling taking place in a stirring mill. The resulting pigment slurry is then isolated as an aqueous presscake.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 23, 1987
Date of Patent: August 1, 1989
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas E. Donegan, John H. Bantjes, Timothy G. Leary
  • Patent number: 4709021
Abstract: A process for preparing phthalocyanine pigment which exhibits excellent flow characteristics when dispersed in solvent type inks comprising the steps ofI. mixing in a high shear mixer(a) premilled copper phthalocyanine crude pigment,(b) tri-(diethylamino-methylene) copper phthalocyanine or an organic salt thereof, and(c) a phase director andII. digesting the mixture in water or an aqueous mineral acid solution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1985
Date of Patent: November 24, 1987
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas E. Donegan, Timothy G. Leary
  • Patent number: 4615868
Abstract: An apparatus for purifying copper phthalocyanine pigment in a continuous process without the use of acid. This apparatus comprises a container for preparing a slurry of said pigment in water, a pump and a conduit for conducting the slurry from the container to the inlet of the pump, a first heating apparatus capable of heating the slurry to a temperature of at least about 75.degree. C., a conduit for conducting the slurry from the pump to the first heating apparatus, a thin film pressure filter, and a conduit for conducting the slurry from the first heating apparatus to the thin film pressure filter. The apparatus is arranged such that the temperature of the slurry passing through the thin film pressure filter is close to the exit temperature of the slurry from the first heating apparatus. A product outlet is provided for the filter and a control valve is positioned in the product outlet.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 1982
Date of Patent: October 7, 1986
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Matthew K. L. Wong, Rodney G. Schroeder, Thomas E. Donegan
  • Patent number: 4589922
Abstract: In accordance with the instant invention, a high solids phthalocyanine pigment presscake prepared by methods well known to those skilled in the art is fluidized. The fluidization process comprises the steps of mixing the high solids pigment presscake with alkali metal hydroxide or ammonium hydroxide and rosin. In a preffered embodiment, the rosin, is dissolved in the hydroxide or aqueous solution thereof prior to mixing with the presscake.
