Publication number: 20040039042Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for transdermal drug delivery of insoluble drugs, especially those with severe side effects. It also relates to a new use for the drug Carafate®. Specifically, the present invention describes a method for delivering insoluble drugs transdermally by making a suspension of the powdered form of the drug in an isotonic solution. Drugs which can be delivered by this method include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Vioxx®, Celebrex®, Accutane®, and Carafate®. The invention also describes a solution of a powdered form of Carafate® in an isotonic solution, which can then be used to treat conditions such as acne, herpes simplex II cold sores, root canal wounds, and dry sockets after teeth have been removed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2002Publication date: February 26, 2004Inventor: Thomas E. Patent number: 6475167Abstract: A guide wire tip including a core wire having a proximal end and a distal end. The core wire includes a tapered portion proximate the distal end. The tapered portion has a transverse, cross-sectional area which generally decreases distally. The tip is disposed at the distal end of the core wire. The tip has a transverse, cross-sectional area larger than the smallest transverse cross-sectional area of the tapered portion of the core wire. A coil extends over the core wire to the tip. The coil extends over at least a portion of the tapered portion. A radiopaque sheath is disposed proximate the tip and between the core wire and the coil.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Scimed Life Systems, Inc.Inventors: Thomas E. Patent number: 5584256Abstract: A tool, for placement of predetermined amounts of granular fertilizer into the soil in a consolidated mass, provides an elongate body with a handle structure in its upper portion and a tubular fertilizer reservoir in its lower portion. The fertilizer reservoir defines an open upper portion for filling and slidably carries an associated tube for adjustment of the volume of a fertilizer charge. An angulated bottom portion of the reservoir allows insertion into the earth and carries a pivotally articulated cover to allow opening of the bottom portion of the reservoir for dispersement of a fertilizer charge. The lower medial portion of the tool body provides a pivotally mounted foot support to aid insertion of the fertilizer reservoir into the earth. Dispersement structure communicates from the pivotally articulated reservoir cover to the handle structure for opening of the cover from the handle area for dispersement of fertilizer.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: December 17, 1996Inventor: Thomas E. Fleming

Patent number: 5490702Abstract: A tool to releasably engage in a channel of a concrete block for lifting provides an elongate body rod defining a fastening loop in its upper portion and carrying in its lower portion two radially extending fins having an obtuse central angle less than a straight angle therebetween. Each fin pivotally supports vertically spaced, parallel connector links that pivotally interconnect vertically orientated fastening arms for similar radial motion. The body provides at least one fixed fastening arm extending on a line bisecting the central angle between the two fins. Release mechanism provides a release collar slidable on the body between the fins and fastening ring. The collar pivotally carries connector links that interconnect with the upper fastening arms to radially move the fastening arm responsive to collar motion. A compression spring carried about the body rod between the collar and the fastening ring biases the collar downwardly and responsively the fastening arms outwardly.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1995Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Inventor: Thomas E. Fleming
