  • Publication number: 20120307804
Abstract: A technique for transmission of wireless signals across CDMA radio links. Bandwidth is allocated dynamically within a session to specific CDMA subscriber unit based upon data rate determinations. Specifically, a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm operates from limits calculated based upon available ports per subscriber, expected user bandwidth, and parallel user bandwidth versus throughput. Provisions for priority service, unbalanced forward and reverse spectrum utilization, voice prioritization, and band switching are also made.

  • Patent number: 8259687
Abstract: A code division multiple access (CDMA) user device configured to dynamically allocating at least at least one wireless communication channel to permit a more efficient allocation of wireless communication channels when providing high speed data service. The CDMA user device is configured to receive data traffic from at least one data buffer in a base station. The CDMA user device is dynamically allocated at least one wireless communication channel based on an urgency factor. The urgency factor indicates the urgency of traffic data to be transmitted from the at least one data buffer in the base station to the CDMA user device.

  • Patent number: 8140004
Abstract: A digital satellite radio system includes a content server for providing a digital satellite radio channels, and a satellite for broadcasting the digital satellite radio channels. For overcoming indoor reception problems, a modem is connected to the content server via the Internet for receiving a selected digital satellite radio channel while not receiving unselected digital satellite radio channels. A digital satellite radio unit receives the selected digital satellite radio channel from the modem while not receiving the unselected digital satellite radio channels. In lieu of the modem connected to the Internet, a repeater receiving signals from the satellite is used for providing the selected digital satellite radio channel to the digital satellite radio unit.

  • Patent number: 7894475
Abstract: A system and method for communicating between a plurality of remote transceivers and a network is discussed including multiple types of serially-connected communication links, upon which data flows are established to communicate information between the remote transceivers and network. A hub is coupled to one end of a hardwired communication link while an access unit is coupled to the other end. In addition to supporting communications on the hardwired link, the hub supports communication with the plurality of remote transceivers over a wireless link of a first type. The access unit at the other end of the hardwired link is in further communication with a base station over a wireless communication link of a second type, while the base station is in further communication with the network. Based on this topology, data flows over this string of interconnected communication media support information transfers between the plurality of remote transceivers and the network.

  • Patent number: 7860182
Abstract: A communications device includes an antenna array comprising antenna elements for receiving at least N spatially independent signals, and a receiver coupled to the antenna array. The receiver includes an analog receiver circuit for receiving the N spatially independent signals, and has a bandwidth of at least N times an information bandwidth of the spatially independent signals. The receiver further includes a digital receiver circuit coupled to the analog receiver circuit, and samples the N spatially independent signals at a rate of at least N times a Nyquist rate which would have been required if a single antenna element had been used to receive the signals. A processor is coupled to the digital receiver circuit for demultiplexing the sampled N spatially independent signals.

  • Publication number: 20100202425
Abstract: A technique for communication with a local area network (LAN) via a wireless connection determines whether a first short-range, high-speed, wireless communication path is available and connects to the LAN using a longer range, lower speed wireless communication path if the short-range, high-speed wireless communication path is not available. The low-range, high-speed wireless communication path is a wireless communication path is a wireless LAN connection such as an IEE 802.11-compliant wireless LAN and the long-range, low-sped wireless communication mode is a cellular CDMA-type connection. Determining whether the first IEEE 802.11 mode is available can be done by detecting a beacon signal, or transmitting a probe request message and detecting a probe response message in response to the probe request, indicating the presence or availability of the short-range, high-speed wireless communication path.

  • Patent number: 7633442
Abstract: A satellite communication subscriber device includes a smart antenna for generating antenna beams for receiving signals from at least one satellite, and a receiver. The receiver includes a quality metric module for calculating a quality metric on the signals received by each antenna beam. Alternatively, the availability of short-range, high-speed wireless communication path can be detected by simply detecting activity on it.

  • Patent number: 7542771
Abstract: The delivery of content across a wireless communication link is based on a mobility state associated with a wireless transceiver. The system employs pricing tiers, which represent each subscriber's mobility-based privileges to specific content. That is, a mobile user can be charged a premium to maintain the same quality of service as a stationary user. The impact of mobility is thus felt by the mobile subscriber, either by experiencing reduced bandwidth or through higher subscription fees. By limited content delivery, the impact of motion and similar phenomenon on the wireless resources as a whole can be reduced.
