  • Patent number: 8778859
Abstract: Polymeric additives are disclosed for compressor lubricants which can reduce the tendency of the lubricant to become entrained in compressed gases and be carried forward as fine dispersed droplets in compressed gas systems such as compressed air, natural gas, and compression refrigeration systems.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 2003
Date of Patent: July 15, 2014
    Assignee: The Lubrizol Corporation
Inventors: Thomas E. Rajewski, Kenneth C. Lilje, John C. Tolfa
  • Patent number: 6983614
Abstract: A formate salt based heat transfer fluid containing sulfamic acid for a secondary refrigeration loop is disclosed. The formate based heat transfer fluid generally is a more effective heat transfer medium than a glycol based fluid designed to operate in the same temperature range. The formate based fluid also has lower toxicity and environmental risks than the glycol fluid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 17, 2001
Date of Patent: January 10, 2006
    Assignee: The Lubrizol Corporation
Inventors: Diane L. Dick, Thomas E. Rajewski, Gilbert R. Malone
  • Publication number: 20040040336
Abstract: A formate salt based heat transfer fluid containing sulfamic acid and/or biocides for a secondary refrigeration loop is disclosed. The formate based heat transfer fluid generally is a more effective heat transfer medium than a glycol based fluid designed to operate in the same temperature range. The formate based fluid also has lower toxicity and environmental risks than the glycol fluid.

  • Patent number: 6267907
Abstract: A lubricant-refrigerant composition for a compression refrigeration system is disclosed which comprises (A) carbon dioxide refrigerant, and (B) a lubricant of an aliphatic naphthalene. A supplemental lubricant comprising at least one alkyl benzene, a hydrocarbon, a polyalkylene glycol, a polyol ester or a polyvinyl ether may also be present. Additionally, a performance additive comprising an alkoxylated alcohol or phenol, an alkoxylated glycol, an alkyl phenol or a phosphorus compound may also be present.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 1999
Date of Patent: July 31, 2001
    Assignee: The Lubrizol Corporation
Inventors: John C. Tolfa, Thomas E. Rajewski
  • Patent number: 5595678
Abstract: A fluid composition of suitable miscibility and solubility in ammonia, chlorofluorocarbon, hydrochlorofluorocarbon, and hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants includes and a refrigerant selected from the group consisting essentially of ammonia, chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, and hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants and a lubricant composition made with an organic oxide and an alcohol and comprises a polyalkylene glycol of the formula:Z--((CH.sub.2 --CH(R.sub.1)--O).sub.n --(CH.sub.2 --CH(R.sub.1)--O--).sub.m).sub.p --HwhereinZ is a residue of a compound having 1-8 active hydrogens and a minimum number of carbon atoms of six (6) carbons where Z is an aryl group and a minimum number of carbon atoms of ten (10) where Z is an alkyl group,R.sub.1 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or a mixture thereof,N is 0 or a positive number,M is a positive number, andP is an integer having a value equal to the number of active hydrogen of Z.
