  • Patent number: 7388342
Abstract: A system and method for operating a motor drive unit. The motor drive unit is coupled to a motor driving a load and is configured to selectively control the motor according to a torque control mode and a speed control mode. The motor drive unit includes a circuit configured to generate an operational condition signal indicating an operational condition of the motor and a regulator configured to receive the operational condition signal and generate a motor control signal. The motor drive unit also includes a first controller configured to receive the motor control signal and a reference control signal and select either the motor control signal or the reference control signal to use as a control signal to drive the motor according to either torque control or speed control.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 17, 2008
    Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: John J. Golownia, Thomas E. Simon, Peter H. Werner

  • Patent number: 7201345
Abstract: A system and method for splicing reeled media using operational feedback. According to certain embodiments, the method of operating a media production system involves sensing speed parameters of first and second reeled media, tracking an unwinding parameter of the first reeled media, and positionally tracking a leading end position of the second reeled media. The method also involves controlling splicing between the first and second reeled media based at least partially on the speed parameters, the unwinding parameter, and the leading end position.

  • Patent number: 5315077
Abstract: A rotary switch includes a plurality of switching terminals exposed within a chamber in a housing. A fixed planar contact member, having a plurality of spring contact arms, is mounted in the chamber above the terminals. Each of the contact arms is movable out of the plane of the contact member to contact an associated one of the terminals. Each of the contact arms includes a cam follower, at least two of the cam followers being equidistant from the center of the contact member. The cam followers are operatively engaged, in a predetermined sequence, by camming elements extending axially from the bottom surface of a rotor mounted in the chamber above the contact member. The equidistant cam followers are engaged by camming elements that are spaced from the center of the rotor by a distance equal to the distance separating the equidistant cam followers from the center of the contact member.

  • Patent number: 5043695
Abstract: A miniature electronic device includes a housing attached to a substrate by a plurality of terminal leads, each of which has a first end embedded or molded into the housing near the top surface thereof, and a second end bent around a side wall of the housing to engage the bottom surface of the substrate. The bottom surface of the substrate has a plurality of metallized areas, each of which is electrically connected to a component on the upper surface of the substrate. The second end of each lead is soldered or welded to a metallized area. The connection of the leads to the metallized areas secures the housing to the substrate, with the leads also providing the structure for the electrical and mechanical connection of the substrate (and the components thereon) to a circuit board.
