  • Patent number: 6398891
Abstract: A process for manufacturing substantially 100% nylon 6 carpet provides a nylon 6 face yarn to a nylon 6 support means so that the yarn and the support means form a carpet having a face side which is displayed when the carpet is installed and a back that binds the face yarn to the support means wherein said binding is with molten or dissolved nylon 6.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 2, 1995
Date of Patent: June 4, 2002
Inventors: Thomas F. Corbin, Otto M. Ilg, Robert N. Armstrong
  • Patent number: 5977193
Abstract: .epsilon.-Caprolactam is continuously recovered from carpet made from nylon 6 face fibers and a backing. The carpet is fed to a separator to prepare scrap containing nylon 6 and auxiliary materials. The scrap from the separator is fed to a depolymerizing reactor to produce an .epsilon.-caprolactam containing distillate and more auxiliary materials. The .epsilon.-caprolactam in the distillate is separated from other volatiles and purified. The auxiliary materials are also recovered or re-used.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 1992
Date of Patent: November 2, 1999
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas F. Corbin, Alan C. Handermann, Richard Kotek, William D. Porter, Jack A. Dellinger, Edward A. Davis

  • Patent number: 5382474
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing polyethylene terephthalate fibers with reduced flammability which comprises the following steps:(a) condensating terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol in a mole ratio of from 1:1.1-1.5 at a temperature of from 180.degree.to 240.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst;(b) adding a polyalkylene glycol phosphate ester;(c) polycondensating at a temperature of from 265.degree.-280.degree. C. under a pressure decreasing from 760 torr to less than 2 torr to form the polyethylene terepthalate; and(d) melt spinning fibers.

  • Patent number: 5322883
Abstract: Disclosed is a thermoplastic polyester with reduced flammability obtained by:(a) condensating an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an alkylene glycol in a mole ratio of from 1:1.1-1.5 at a temperature of from 180.degree. to 240.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst;(b) adding a polyalkylene glycol phosphate ester;(c) polycondensating at a temperature of from 265.degree. to 280.degree. C. under a pressure decreasing from 760 torr to less than 2 torr until an intrinsic viscosity of about 0.5 to about 0.7 is reached.

  • Patent number: 5169870
Abstract: A process for the continuous recovery of .epsilon.-caprolactam provides a carpet made from nylon 6 fibers and having a backing to a separator to prepare scrap containing nylon 6 and waste. The scrap from the separator is fed to a depolymerizing reactor where the scrap is subjected to a depolymerization catalyst, temperatures of at least the melting point of nylon 6 and superheated steam to produce an .epsilon.-caprolactam containing distillate and more waste. The .epsilon.-caprolactam in the distillate is separated from other volatiles therein; and purified.
