  • Publication number: 20040240491
Abstract: To optimise the transformation rate (efficiency) in the optical frequency conversion of laser beams of ultra-short light pulses in optically non-linear media such as a crystal (56), a double refracting crystal (54) is arranged in the beam path before the optically non-linear medium (56). The length of the double refracting crystal (54) is selected and the orientation of its optical crystal axis in relation to the propagation direction of the laser beams involved in the frequency conversion is set such that the change caused by the double refracting crystal (54) in the location, time and direction of incidence of the laser pulses (14) and (16) on the optically non-linear medium (56) and the resulting change in the spatial and temporal overlap of the laser pulses in the optically non-linear medium (56) for optical frequency conversion in the crystal (56) give a conversion efficiency which is higher than the conversion efficiency which would be achieved without the double refracting crystal (54).

  • Publication number: 20040239094
Abstract: A safety belt arrangement for a motor vehicle. The arrangement includes a belt deflection device. The belt deflection device is arranged above the shoulder of the passenger to be held by the safety belt. The belt deflection device is mounted to a carrier attached to the vehicle body. The belt deflection device includes an upper reversal member, which deflects the belt downwards, and a deflection member arranged below the reversal member. The deflection member being vertically adjustably secured to a rail mounted to the carrier. The deflection member deflects the belt from an at least substantially vertical direction to a direction toward the shoulder of the passenger which deviates significantly from the vertical.

  • Publication number: 20040149877
Abstract: An article attaches to a spray bottle, allowing the bottle to be suspended from a shelf, ironing board, or the like. The article preferably further includes an ergonomic indent enabling the user to comfortably hold the article connected to a spray bottle in a comfortable and convenience manner. The preferred embodiment includes a lower end with an opening physically configured to receive the neck of a spray bottle, and an upper end including a hook-shaped lip. The upper end may optionally include a friction-enhancing element. In terms of construction, the article is preferably made from a molded piece of plastic or other polymeric material. One advantage of the design is that when the upper lip is hung on an ironing board, the thickness of the article is sufficiently low in profile that materials to be ironed may be placed directly over the upper lip, thereby affording convenient ironing while ready access to the spray bottle.

  • Patent number: 6736427
Abstract: A safety belt apparatus for motor vehicles comprising a safety belt and a deflecting device for the safety belt which is connected to a holder which can be fastened to the vehicle via an absorption unit. The deflecting device being movable in an absorption direction by forces occurring relative to the holder with a pulling movement of the safety belt caused by an accident while overcoming an opposing absorption resistance of the absorption unit. The deflecting device being hindered from making a movement in the absorption direction with forces occurring in normal operation. The absorption unit being changeable in shape by the deflecting device moving in the absorption direction in order to overcome the absorption resistance.

  • Publication number: 20030173768
Abstract: A safety belt apparatus for a vehicle, having a belt reel, a belt buckle, a belt redirection apparatus mounted on the B-post of the vehicle. The apparatus also includes, a belt-force limiter with a torsion bar and a belt tensioner. In the event of an accident, the belt tensioner is triggered, and pretorsioning of the torsion bar is simultaneously effected. The pretorsion is preferably brought about by the forces that arise during belt tensioning. The pretorsion allows for the force limitation to start at an optimum force level with regard to the retention force and the protection of the occupant.

  • Patent number: 6516258
Abstract: A method is indicated according to which the triggering of a restraining device or devices in a vehicle can be adjusted to specific characteristics of the vehicle involved in the impending crash in such a way as to furnish optimum protection for the vehicle occupants. To this end, before a crash between two vehicles, each vehicle transmits data concerning its own vehicle-specific characteristics that can affect the course of the crash, and each vehicle receives the vehicle-specific data transmitted by the other vehicle and derives from them control data for triggering its restraining device or devices.

  • Publication number: 20010015522
Abstract: A method and assembly provide a feed roller that is designed to slip when a foreign object, not designed to be fed by the feed roller, engages the feed roller. One or more rollers are mounted on a shaft and have a grooved surface spring pressed into engagement with a pin extending radially outwardly from the shaft. When a force is applied to the circumference of the roller greater than the force applied by a spring which biases the grooved surface into contact with the pin, the roller will slip, and substantially stop rotating. Since the shaft continues to be driven, if the foreign object is removed the next time the grooved surface is aligned with the pin it will be biased into engagement with the pin so that that roller automatically starts to rotate and provide a feeding action again.

  • Patent number: 6113140
Abstract: An apparatus for noncontact transmission of signals between a steering wheel and a steering column includes an airbag triggering device and a diagnostic device on the steering wheel side. The diagnostic device monitors the function of the airbag triggering device and transmits its diagnostic signal via a rotary transfer unit to a control device located on the steering column side. A simulation circuit, which can be set as a function of the diagnostic signal to the diagnosed resistance of the triggering device, precedes the control device on the steering column side.

  • Patent number: 6008547
Abstract: An arrangement for contactless transmission of signals, e.g., between at least one circuit unit installed on the vehicle body and at least one circuit unit in a vehicle seat mounted displaceably on rails is described. This arrangement is free of wear and guarantees interference-free signal transmission. This arrangement consists of at least one repeating coil whose primary winding and secondary winding are in separate pot-type cores, one of which is mounted on a stationary vehicle part (body) and the other is mounted on the movable vehicle part (vehicle seat). Both pot-type cores are designed as rails sliding along one another and having sections such that together they form a closed circuit for the magnetic flux between the primary winding and the secondary winding.

  • Patent number: 5994788
Abstract: The transfer unit which brings about the signal connection between an airbag installed in a steering wheel and a circuit arranged outside the steering wheel possesses a primary and a secondary winding which are located in separate annular dished cores which are mounted rotatably with respect to one another about the steering wheel axis. To ensure that the transfer unit transfers airbag measurement signals with minimal falsification, one of its two dished cores is equipped with a U-shaped cross section, and the other dished core projects into the latter, so that the magnetic flux intersects the air gaps remaining between the two dished cores preferably in a direction radial to the rotation axis.
