  • Publication number: 20110148215
Abstract: In one embodiment, a wireless power transfer system has a wireless power transmitter and receiver. The transmitter has a transmitting resonant circuit that resonates at a first frequency and a signal generator that generates a signal at a second frequency. The transmitter also has a power detector that measures reflected power at the transmitting resonant circuit, and an auto-tuner that generates transmitter tuning parameters for adjusting the first and second frequencies to reduce reflected power. The receiver has a receiving resonant circuit that resonates at a third frequency based on a receiver tuning parameter. The receiver tuning parameter is generated by a power detector that measures power generated at the receiving resonant circuit, and an auto-tuner that generates the receiver tuning parameter to increase the load power.

  • Publication number: 20100074460
Abstract: A hearing aid and a method of enhancing sound. In one embodiment, the hearing aid includes: (1) a direction sensor configured to produce data for determining a direction in which attention of a user is directed, (2) microphones to provide output signals indicative of sound received at the user from a plurality of directions, (3) a speaker for converting an electrical signal into enhanced sound and (4) an acoustic processor configured to be coupled to the direction sensor, the microphones, and the speaker, the acoustic processor being configured to superpose the output signals based on the determined direction to yield an enhanced signal based on the received sound, the enhanced signal having a higher content of sound received from the direction than sound received at the user.

  • Patent number: 7508808
Abstract: Frequency-division multiplexing and demultiplexing systems and methods for use with M transmit and N receive antennas, M equaling at least two. In one embodiment, a frequency-division multiplexing system includes: (1) a differential modulator that generates M×M unitary space-frequency signals from incoming message bits and (2) a time-frequency transformer, coupled to the differential modulator, that transforms the M×M space-frequency signals into space-time transmit signals for the M transmit antennas.

  • Publication number: 20090034668
Abstract: Various embodiments generally relate to a method for synchronizing a receiver, said method including receiving a stream that includes a cyclic extension, estimating a size of the cyclic extension, extracting an amount of the stream according to the estimated size, and comparing the extracted amount to the stream to determine thereby a portion of the stream likely to include a symbol start point.

  • Publication number: 20080161016
Abstract: The present invention provides a module for locating a mobile device. In one embodiment, the module is configured to determine a location of a mobile device based on phase-sensitive measurements of wireless signals transmitted by the mobile device. Correspondingly, the module is configured to determine the location based on the phase-sensitive measurements of the wireless signals made at multiple measurement sites.

  • Patent number: 6307882
Abstract: Channel propagation characteristics in a wireless communication system, wherein plural communication links or channels are defined between multiple transmit antenna elements and multiple receive antenna elements, are determined by selecting a matrix of training signals for transmission from the transmit antenna elements, and providing information concerning the selected training signal matrix to a system receiver. The training signals are transmitted from the transmit antenna elements to the receive antenna elements in a determined sequence during a defined training signal time interval, and signals corresponding to the training signals are received via the receive antenna elements. Components of a propagation characteristic matrix for use in discriminating signals transmitted at times other than the training signal time interval, are determined at the receiver as a function of signals received during the training signal time interval and the information concerning the matrix of training signals.

  • Patent number: 4851781
Abstract: A method and apparatus investigating a circumferential segment of a borehole with an array of elements, which in effect spatially samples the segment, is described whereby, with a single circumferentially oriented array of spaced-apart elements sufficient overlap can be synthesized so as to reduce artifacts attributable to the spatial sampling. Measurements derived from circumferentially successive elements are combined, such as by summing to establish a desired overlap. In the described embodiment to a single lateral array of small electrodes is used to inject survey currents into the borehole wall and each current is measured. Measurements derived from pairs of successive survey currents are then summed to provide the desired overlap.

  • Patent number: 4594691
Abstract: Disclosed is sonic well logging which gives good results both in open and in cased boreholes. New use is made of the energy content output from a multireceiver tool to find a coherence measure for the received sonic energy and to find the peaks of that coherence measure at each depth level so as to produce a number of new logs of parameters of those peaks. Examples are a slowness/time coherence log for those peaks, as well as new logs related to the arrival times of the coherent energy associated with the peaks and the energy attenuation for those arrival times.
