  • Patent number: 8268264
Abstract: A method and device for separating from samples magnetic particles that contain capture compounds on their surfaces. The device includes a sheath including a magnet and including orienting pin adapted to concentrate or direct a magnetic field of the magnet; and a magnetizable plate with lid holes for receiving a vessel lid of a vessel, the magnetizable plate configured to receive the sheath and position the orienting pin over the vessel lid. In one method, magnetic beads with attached molecules are collected in the lids of the reaction vessel by the magnetic separator device provided herein and the separated magnetic particles, which carry the molecules of interest through affinity-based attachment chemistry and are held in the lid by the magnet of the device, are released into a new vessel containing a solution by removal of the separator device without the need for pipettes or liquid handling devices.

  • Publication number: 20090316448
Abstract: The invention relates to a power inverter circuit for coupling a power station to a power supply system. The invention addresses the problem to reduce the risk of damages to components of the power station and the power supply system in the course of coupling action by providing a power inverter circuit for adjusting symmetry of the AC voltage before coupling the inverter output to a load, comprising: first switching means for selectively connecting a positive voltage to the inverter circuit output, second switching means for selectively connecting a negative voltage to the inverter output, and ohmic resistance means coupled in parallel to the inverter output, a controller for selectively switching the first and second switching means with a switching frequency to produce an AC voltage from the positive and negative voltage, wherein the controller is adapted to alter the duty ratio of the switching frequency to adjust the symmetry of the AC voltage produced by the inverter.

  • Patent number: 7474951
Abstract: A method for the control of the drive slip in a vehicle with rear wheel drive, particularly when traveling on difficult terrain or in deep snow, involves independent detection of wheel speeds of both the rear/drive wheels and the front/non-drive wheels. Dynamic values, such as wheel acceleration values, of the front wheels are used as a criterion for increasing the drive slip value of the ASR. The drive slip value of the rear wheels is increased if the difference between the dynamic values, e.g., acceleration values, determined for the front wheels exceeds a threshold value. The increased drive slip value of the drive wheels under the difficult travel conditions results in increased traction as well as increased available engine power.

  • Patent number: 7413266
Abstract: An improved method and associated system for controlling the brake system of a vehicle train including a tractor vehicle and a trailer vehicle, wherein a control device disposed in the tractor vehicle is adapted to initiate automatic braking of the trailer vehicle, and wherein the conditions of the driving roadway, especially the coefficient of friction, are taken into account in braking of the trailer vehicle. The intensity of braking of the trailer vehicle is reduced by the control device when a coefficient of friction smaller than a predetermined minimum value is detected between the vehicle train or parts thereof and the driving roadway. One application of the invention is in load trains equipped with means for preventing rollover or overturning.

  • Patent number: 6984005
Abstract: An improved braking method and system for a vehicle equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), a traction control or anti-slip regulation system (ASR) and one or more additional systems capable of effecting automatic braking of the vehicle independently of driver control, e.g., an adaptive cruise control system (ACC) or a rollover stability control system (RSC). Automatic braking takes place by admission of brake pressure to the drive axle. To detect a simultaneous braking demand of the driver, the wheel speeds of the non-driven axle or axles are compared with the wheel speeds of the drive axle or axles. If the wheel speeds of the non-driven axle(s) are less than the wheel speeds of the drive axle(s), or less than a vehicle reference speed, the brake pressure injected in response to driver demand is also fed to the brake cylinders of the wheels of the drive axle(s).

  • Patent number: 6498976
Abstract: An automatic deceleration control apparatus for a vehicle operates so as to secure appropriate tire grip performance, depending on the conditions of a road surface on which the vehicle runs turning, and restrain excessive rolling of the vehicle body, there by stabilizing the turning behavior of the vehicle at all times. While the vehicle is turning on a high-friction road surface without undergoing haw moment control, a safe vehicle speed is computed within the rollover limit of the vehicle. While the vehicle is turning on a low-friction road surface under haw moment control, on the other hand, a safe vehicle speed that ensures satisfactory tire grip performance is computed in accordance with an estimated road friction coefficient. When the vehicle is about to exceed its safe speed as it turns, it is automatically decelerated to the safe speed or below. Thus, the vehicle can be prevented from spinning, drifting out, or rolling over.

  • Patent number: 6151545
Abstract: A signal (S) has a value at every point in time. The values may change in time and may lie within or outside a predetermined basic value range (BVMIN, BVMAX). The signal (S) is processed so that control steps associated with the values of the signal (S) are carried out when certain values of the signal (S) occur outside the basic value range (BVMIN, BVMAX). It may then occur that the carrying out of the control steps may be triggered in an undesirable manner because of implausible values of the signal (S). Such an implausible signal behavior must be recognized rapidly and the undesirable effects of the implausible signal behavior must be decreased or totally prevented at an early moment. For this purpose a value of the signal (S) occurring with relative frequency is determined as a dominant value (DV) as well as a frequency value (FV), which indicates frequency of occurrence of values of the signal (S) situated in the vicinity of the dominant value (DV).

  • Patent number: 5997028
Abstract: An apparatus for counteracting uncontrolled activations of air bags inflated by a pyrotechnical charge following a strong deceleration such as a crash. The apparatus has a pair of center plates having at least three arms displaced in relation to each other and having bent over hooks which engage the steering wheel ring of a vehicle and can be locked against the steering wheel. The center plate and the arms make it impossible to inflate the air bag which is mounted on the steering wheel of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5833312
Abstract: A protection apparatus is mounted in the seat of newly made or available vehicles of any kind for preventing or reducing so-called whiplash injuries when a person in the vehicle is thrown rearwardly in case the vehicle is run into from behind, or as a reaction of a violent movement forwardly in case of a crash with an object in front. The apparatus includes an activation device (4) for a protection apparatus mounted in the seat back (3) of the vehicle seat (2), which activation device is connected to a neck support (9) or to an equivalent, and which upon actuation of the protection apparatus forms a forwardly and preferably also upwardly expelled catcher canvas (10) for the upper part of the back, the neck and the head of the person in the vehicle seat.

  • Patent number: 5527285
Abstract: Injection syringe of disposable type, including a cylinder (91), in which a piston is displaceable in and out respectively, a piston rod (3) having a press plate (12), and an injection needle (4) at the end of the syringe cylinder (1). The syringe needle (4) is mounted from inside the syringe cylinder (1) and is releasably connected (5, 9) to the syringe cylinder (1). The syringe needle (4) or the carrier (5) thereof is formed with one or more blocking ratchets (6) which cooperate with the syringe piston (2) or the piston rod (3), and which blocks the piston against being retracted after the sole injection is made, so that the syringe needle (4) becomes retracted into the inner of the syringe cylinder (1) upon withdrawal of the piston (2) after the injection has taken place.
