  • Patent number: 5981824
Abstract: A process for producing an absorbent article is provided. The process comprises placing an absorbent layer between a body-side, cover layer and a fluid-impermeable, garment-side backing layer wherein the cover layer and the absorbent layer are each comprised of thermoplastic fibers. The cover layer, absorbent layer, and backing layer are subjected to pressure and heat sufficient to melt only one of the thermoplastic fibers in each of the cover and absorbent layers.

  • Patent number: 5807365
Abstract: A disposable panty shield comprising a thin, highly absorbent pad having a body-contacting surface, an absorbent layer, a liquid barrier, a positioning means for attaching the pad to an undergarment, and a release layer to protect the positioning means prior to use wherein the has been densified by fusing all pad layers together in a manner such that the interstitial space between the individual fibers in the densified areas is not sufficient to readily allow fluid to flow through. Further, the densified areas are made contiguous such that fluid, when introduced or deposited on the pad, will be prevented or hindered from flowing to the edges of the pad.

  • Patent number: 5217448
Abstract: Sanitary napkins are provided which include release surfaces disposed on their undergarment-facing side so that adhesive elements on one or more flaps can be secured. This feature provides users of the sanitary napkin product with the choice of employing side-protecting flaps upon demand or leaving them in place. The napkins also incorporate preferred adhesive element systems which can be disposed to contact silicone treated films or other release areas on their undergarment-facing sides. Additional embodiments of this invention provide for extending the release surface to enable tri-folding of the napkin and a partial or total elimination of traditionally required release paper strips.
