  • Patent number: 8653184
Abstract: Esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids are used as plasticisers for polyvinyl chloride to enable products with comparable mechanical properties to be obtained using less polyvinyl chloride. Use of these esters also produces formulations with increased stability to ultra-violet light, improved low temperature properties, lower viscosity and improved processability as well as reduced smoke on burning. The esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may be used alone or in admixture with other plasticisers when the esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may act as viscosity depressants. Fast fusing plasticisers may also be included. The formulations and processes of making these formulations are particularly useful in the production of a range of goods from semi-rigid to highly flexible materials and are particularly useful in the production of medical materials, toys, and food contact articles.

  • Patent number: 8604110
Abstract: Provided are compounds of the formula: wherein m=0-3 and n=0-3, and R1 represents CxH2x wherein x=0 to 4 or cyclohexane; R2 represents H, a C1-C6 alkyl group at any of the ortho-, meta- or para-positions, a residue including heteroatoms chosen from O, N, and S, or mixtures thereof; and R3 and R4 represent hydrocarbon residues of OXO-C5-C9 alcohols which are different isomers of equal carbon number or different in carbon number. Also provided are processes for making the compounds and plasticized polymer compositions containing said compounds.

  • Patent number: 4245855
Abstract: A lateral stabilizer for large dual purpose vehicles has an hydraulic cylinder on each side of the vehicle pivotably mounted on the vehicle frame at a point displaced laterally from the vehicle center-line and below the axis of the cylinder so the cylinder can rotate from a horizontal position to a vertically inclined position. A flexible tension member is connected at one end adjacent the free end of the cylinder rod and at its other end to the frame adjacent the vehicle center-line and below the stored cylinder. The tension member is relaxed until hydraulic fluid is supplied to the cylinder and the cylinder rod extends to the point at which the member is fully extended. Further extension of the rod causes the tension member to rotate the cylinder about its pivot.

  • Patent number: 4215706
Abstract: Tobacco (donor tobacco) is contacted with a receiving substrate which has been treated with a strong acid or an ammonium salt of a strong acid. Part of the nicotine in the donor tobacco is transferred from the donor tobacco to the receiving substrate. Thereafter the donor tobacco and the substrate may be separated. The donor tobacco has a reduced nicotine content and hence more desirable for use in a smoking product. Where the receiving substrate is a low nicotine tobacco by-product (or artificial smoking material) said substrate, enriched in nicotine as a result of the transfer, may be used as a filler material for smoking products.
