  • Publication number: 20110266905
Abstract: A flux-focused, shaped permanent magnet includes a body of magnetic material having multiple surface contouring to form a reduced flux side with convex surfaces and an increased flux side with concave surfaces. The surfaces develop high and low resistance external flux paths creating focused asymmetric flux fields. A magnetic unit having the shaped permanent magnet and a magnetic flux attracter or two shaped permanent magnets interconnected by two segmented permanent magnets and a kinetic device having a stationary stator ring, a rotor disc rotating within the stator ring and a multiplicity of the magnetic units on the stator ring and the rotor disc, are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20110233211
Abstract: A one-piece non-contaminating milk or food container seal and seal removal system includes a channel or pouring spout to be connected to a food container. The spout has an inner surface to be contacted by contents of the container and the inner surface has a top edge. A seal prevents human contact with the inner surface of the channel or pouring spout. The seal has an outer periphery frangibly connected to the top edge. A tab permits unbroken, intact manual removal of the seal with one finger. A removable closure for the channel or pouring spout contacts the top edge before removal of the seal and after replacement of the removable closure. The tab does not extend above the top edge before removal of the closure and the seal. The channel or pouring spout, the seal and part of the tab are formed in one piece at the top edge.

  • Publication number: 20100112282
Abstract: A fiber includes a base having a surface to be impacted by a fluid wave for propelling the fiber forward and a body having a trailing end connected to the base, a leading free end, and a spiral shape causing the fluid wave to rotate the fiber. A locking system causes the fiber to engage and hold at least one other fiber being propelled and rotated by the fluid wave.

  • Patent number: 7687009
Abstract: A fiber includes a base having a surface to be impacted by a fluid wave for propelling the fiber forward and a body having a trailing end connected to the base, a leading free end, and a spiral shape causing the fluid wave to rotate the fiber. A locking system causes the fiber to engage and hold at least one other fiber being propelled and rotated by the fluid wave. A process for producing three-dimensional, self-interlacing composites by mechanical polymerization with ultrasonic manipulation, includes placing the fibers and a mixing fluid in a form or mold. The fluid is subjected to ultrasonic manipulation in a mixing step, causing the fibers to be propelled, rotated and three-dimensionally engaged and held to one another.

  • Patent number: 7685676
Abstract: A living hinge includes a hinge body formed of a material. The hinge body has attachment edges and a flexing zone between the attachment edges defining a flexing axis. The material of the hinge body has at least one separation formed therein in the flexing zone. The at least one separation describes an angle with the flexing axis being other than 90°.

  • Patent number: 7527251
Abstract: A non-helical torsion spring system includes an arm to be connected to a load, such as a frame or chassis of a vehicle, and at least one ring to be connected to a moving member, such as a vehicle suspension member. Torsion elements, which may be disposed in concentric groups, each have one end disposed at and resisting rotation relative to the arm but permitting flexural movement relative to the arm. The torsion elements also each have another end disposed at and resisting rotation relative to the at least one ring but permitting flexural movement relative to the at least one ring. At least one of the ends is axially movable. Each group of torsion elements is connected to a respective ring. A torsion control adjusts torsion in the at least two torsion elements, manually or through the use of servomotors.

  • Publication number: 20090030340
Abstract: A biopsy needle has a forward needle opening that can be closed off with a trap door. The trap door is pivotally mounted to a flat top surface inside the needle opening. As the needle is extracted, a forward blade of the trap door cuts into the biopsy tissue and the trap door pivots about a pivot axis extending transversely to a longitudinal direction of the needle. The trap door is configured to match a contour of the top surface and an adjacent curve of the needle opening to maintain the needle substantially open when the trap door is in the open position and to close the forward needle opening when the trap door is in the closed position and the biopsy tissue specimen is entrapped inside the needle.

  • Publication number: 20090000573
Abstract: A sediment drain system used in a hot water heater having a tank with a top and a bottom, includes a hot water outlet in vicinity of the top of the tank, and a sediment removal tube having a tube inlet opening in vicinity of the bottom of the tank and a tube outlet opening in vicinity of the top of the tank. A combined hot water and sediment outlet connected to the hot water outlet and to the tube outlet opening mixes and draws off sediment and hot water together for a predetermined period of time from the vicinity of the top of the tank. A method for draining sediment from a water heater includes mixing and drawing off sediment and hot water together for a predetermined period of time from the vicinity of the top of the tank through the combined hot water and sediment outlet.
