  • Publication number: 20240052723
Abstract: A technique facilitates actuation of a downhole device, such as an isolation valve. According to an embodiment, the downhole device may be in the form of an isolation valve member, e.g. a ball valve element, actuated between positions by a mechanical section which may comprise a shifting linkage. Actuation of the mechanical section, and thus actuation of the isolation valve member, is achieved by a trip saver section controlled according to a pressure signature which may be applied from a suitable location, e.g. from the surface. The trip saver section comprises a housing having an internal actuation piston coupled with the mechanical section. The trip saver section further comprises a pilot piston and a plurality of chambers formed in a wall of the housing and arranged to enable shifting of the actuation piston in response to a predetermined series of pressure pulses or other suitable pressure signature.

  • Publication number: 20190045281
Abstract: A low power, high redundancy point-to-point meter reading system, such as an automatic meter reading (AMR) system, that uses digital signal processing (DSP) techniques to make effective use of more (and potentially all) of the continual low-power data transmissions inherent in one-way data transmission systems by using multiple data transmissions to build a stronger, narrower band data transmission. For example, DSP techniques combining multiple low-power data samples into stronger signals can be used to lower the bandwidth required by the data collectors from the narrowband range (e.g., 30 kHz) down to the ultra-narrow frequency range (e.g., 7 kHz). Similarly, these DSP techniques may be used to increase the range of one-way meter systems in the 900 MHz ISM band. As another example, these DSP techniques may also be used to increase the sensitivity in the time domain rather than the frequency or code domain.

  • Publication number: 20180128646
Abstract: A very narrowband mesh communication system utilizes single-mode transponders for “hop” communications between meters and data collection nodes, as well “mesh” relay communications between meters. The relay nodes and the data collection points may both utilize a 500 kHz communication band divided into 50 or 40 very narrowband sub-channels, which in this example are 10 kHz or 12.5 kHz wide. This increases the sensitivity of the transponders to the ?130 dBM range and low data rates in the range of hundred of bits per second, which is well suited to Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IOT) applications. The increased transponder sensitivity also increases the ability of the mesh system to communicate with hard-to-reach transponders and opens the system to a wider range of alternative communication hop paths.

  • Patent number: 8166000
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for using a data mining algorithm to generate format rules used to validate data sets. A data set has a plurality of columns and records providing data for each of the columns. Selection is received of at least one format column for which format rules are to be generated and selection is received of at least one predictor column. A format mask column is generated for each selected format column. For records in the data set, a value in the at least one format column is converted to a format mask representing a format of the value in the format column and storing the format mask in the format mask column in the record for which the format mask was generated. The at least one predictor column and the at least one format mask column are processed to generate at least one format rule. Each format rule specifies a format mask associated with at least one condition in the at least one predictor column.

  • Patent number: 7808938
Abstract: A very narrow band multipoint communication system suitable for use in an automatic meter reading (AMR) system having a communication protocol that divides each main channel of a frequency or digital code hopping system into multiple sub-channels and applies frequency division multiplexing among the sub-channels. Each sub-channel exhibits a very narrow band characteristic that allows gain increase to increase the transmission range of the meters. In addition, frequency division multiplexing among the sub-channels greatly increases the number of meters that can communicate on each main channel. The data collection device demodulates and decodes the multiplexed meter signals at an intermediate frequency with electronic circuitry. The resulting very narrow band AMR system exhibits greater transmission range, greater bandwidth and can accommodate a much larger number of meters per data collection device in comparison to a conventional narrow band AMR system.

  • Publication number: 20070235159
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed in which ultrasonic vibration is used to assist the degassing of molten metals or metal alloys thereby reducing gas content in the molten metals or alloys. High-intensity ultrasonic vibration is applied to a radiator that creates cavitation bubbles, induces acoustic streaming in the melt, and breaks up purge gas (e.g., argon or nitrogen) which is intentionally introduced in a small amount into the melt in order to collect the cavitation bubbles and to make the cavitation bubbles survive in the melt. The molten metal or alloy in one version of the invention is an aluminum alloy. The ultrasonic vibrations create cavitation bubbles and break up the large purge gas bubbles into small bubbles and disperse the bubbles in the molten metal or alloy more uniformly, resulting in a fast and clean degassing.

  • Patent number: 6129148
Abstract: Method for reducing the viscosity of clogging hydrocarbons in an oil well. The method utilizes a tube type heat exchanger enabling heated gases to pass through feed water coils to heat the water to a predetermined temperature and at a pressure which prevents any flashing or phase change of the feed water within the heat exchanger. From the heat exchanger the heated feed water passes through a conduit which empties into the oil well. The well is open to atmosphere so that the feed water undergoes a phase change or flashing when it is introduced into the oil well. The resulting combined steam and hot water reduce the viscosity of the hydrocarbons sufficiently to facilitate their flow out of the oil well.

  • Patent number: 5472341
Abstract: A burner capable of burning low pressure combustible gas with minimum pollutant emissions. The gas is preheated to hydrocarbon cracking temperatures in a heat exchanger located directly within an elongated water jacketed combustion chamber of the burner. The heated, expanding and rapidly flowing gas from the heat exchanger passes through a nozzle to further accelerate the gas for passage into an air intake system together with aspirated air. The nozzle and intake system are adjustable to meter in proper amounts of gas and air for a stoichiometric mixture. The gas/air mixture is laterally directed into the combustion chamber to induce turbulence and continued mixing for optimum ignition and burning. The resulting heated gases are useful in various end applications, such as in steam generating boilers. The burner is also adapted to inject steam into the preheated gas or into the intake system or into both to increase mass flow of air and to promote low pollutant emissions.
