  • Publication number: 20110086975
Abstract: Gel coat compositions and/or components thereof that have low viscosity characteristics while also incorporating relatively high molecular weight resin material. In representative embodiments, this is achieved by using a curable polyester resin with low polydispersity in the gel coat compositions and/or one or more components thereof. In preferred embodiments, such resin material is used to prepare one or more color components that can be readily blended with one or more other gel coat resin components to form gel coat compositions. These compositions can be cured to form gel coats. By blending the components according to recipes, a wide range of different gel coat compositions with custom color or other visual appearance can be prepared on demand from a limited inventory of color components.

  • Publication number: 20090004396
Abstract: The synthesis of highly-branched, allyl ether-functionalized, unsaturated polyester resins is disclosed herein, along with the utility of these resins in formulating formaldehyde-free, isocyanate-free, and styrene-free, low temperature and fast curing solvent-borne coatings, including wood coatings, and their use as alternatives for conventional acid catalyzed urea- or melamine-crosslinked coating systems.

  • Publication number: 20070269668
Abstract: The present invention provides a high reflectivity lighting fixture, comprising a coated reflector and a light source. The reflector is coated with a composition that includes a cycloaliphatic group containing polyester resin and a pigment. The present invention also provides coating compositions that may be used on other articles where high reflectivity is desired.

  • Publication number: 20060167208
Abstract: An improved urethane acrylate gel coat resin, its method of manufacture, and its use in gel coat compositions are disclosed. The urethane acrylate gel coat resin contains terminal acrylate moieties and is the reaction product of an oligoester of weight average molecular weight about 200 to about 4000, a diisocyanate, and a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate. The gel coat resin is used in gel coat compositions that exhibit good weatherability and color stability after cure.

  • Publication number: 20060003159
Abstract: A high reflectivity coated substrate and coating composition employing a binder containing a polyester resin that includes a cycloaliphatic group and has a number average molecular weight from about 1,000 to 40,000. The binder contains less than 40 weight percent aromatic group containing compound and the weight ratio of pigment to binder is greater than 0.9:1. When the binder is blended with rutile TiO2 at a solids loading of 50 weight percent and coated to a dried film thickness of 0.00254 cm, the coating exhibits a Y-value of at least 85.5.
