Publication number: 20210259590Abstract: Disclosed are examples that include receiving information related to ingestion of a meal. The information may include a coarse indication of a size of the meal, a relative time of ingestion of the meal, and a general composition indication of the meal. A blood glucose measurement value received within a predetermined time range of a relative time of ingestion of the meal may be identified. Settings for a delay and an extend parameter and a delivery constraint may be determined. A meal model may be modified using the determined settings for the delay parameter, the extend parameter, and the delivery constraint. The modified meal model may be used to determine a dose of insulin to be delivered in response to the received information. An instruction indicates a determined dose of insulin to be delivered may be output for delivery to a drug delivery device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2020Publication date: August 26, 2021Inventors: Thomas METZMAKER, Nicholas CONTE, Ian MCLAUGHLIN, Joon Bok LEE, Paul Frederick BENTE, Ashutosh ZADE, Steven CARDINALI

Publication number: 20210249115Abstract: Disclosed are examples of a device, a system, methods and computer-readable medium products operable to implement functionality to determine and respond to a purpose of a meal. An algorithm or application may receive data that may include data related to a meal purpose from data sources and determine whether any of the data received from the plurality of data sources was received from a direct data source or an indirect data source. The data may be evaluated to determine a purpose of the meal. Based on the results of the evaluation, instructions may be generated to provide an appropriate response based on the determined purpose of the meal. The generated instructions to provide the appropriate response based on the determined purpose of the meal may be output.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2020Publication date: August 12, 2021Inventors: David NAZZARO, Steven CARDINALI, Nicholas CONTE, Daniel ALLIS, Jason O'CONNOR, Joon Bok LEE, Ashutosh ZADE, Timothy HENNING, Thomas METZMAKER, Ian MCLAUGHLIN

Publication number: 20210128831Abstract: A wearable drug delivery device and method for optimizing performance thereof are provided. A system may include a processor operable with memory, and a drug delivery device and sensor coupled to a user, the sensor operable to detect characteristics of the delivery device. A receiver operable on the processor receives an input signal from the sensor, the input signal representing the detected characteristics. A controller operable on the processor receives the input signal from the receiver, and retrieves, from memory, a baseline characteristics. The controller may determine a location of the delivery device and a tissue profile of the injection location based on a comparison between the detected characteristics and the baseline characteristics. The controller may further control or modify delivery of a liquid drug from the delivery device in response to the location of the delivery device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2020Publication date: May 6, 2021Inventors: Ashutosh ZADE, Joon Bok LEE, Yibin ZHENG, Rangarajan NARAYANASWAMI, David NAZZARO, Thomas METZMAKER

Publication number: 20200023119Abstract: Disclosed are examples of reservoir and reservoir systems usable with a wearable drug delivery device. An example reservoir may include a flexible component coupled to a shell component. The shell component may include drainage channels to facilitate extraction of the liquid drug from the reservoir. A reservoir system example may include an exoskeleton configured around a flexible reservoir to guide the expansion and collapse of the flexible reservoir. Alternatively, one or more rigid panels may be coupled to corresponding flat surfaces of the flexible reservoir to guide the expansion and collapse of the flexible reservoir. A further reservoir example may include a flexible thin film reservoir having peel-able restraints configured to seal off corresponding sections of the reservoir, sequentially break, enabling the liquid drug to sequentially fill corresponding sections in a controlled and predicable manner. A wearable drug delivery device example suitable for utilizing the described examples is provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2019Publication date: January 23, 2020Inventors: Jeff BARNES, Jackie MAC, Ian MCLAUGHLIN, David NAZZARO, Steven CARDINALI, Thomas METZMAKER
