  • Patent number: 6790926
Abstract: Claimed is a non-porous, waterproof film having a water vapor permeability of at least 1000 g/m2 day, based on a thermoplastic polyurethane, wherein the polyurethane is composed of a) 40 to 52 wt. % of polyether glycol having an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen in the range of 2,0 to 4,3, with at least 30 wt. % of the polyurethane being composed of a polyether glycol having an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen in the range of 2,0 to 2,4, b) 30 to 45 wt. % of polyisocyanate, calculated as 4,4′-diphenyl methane diisocyanate, c) 0,5 to 10 wt. % of araliphatic diol, and d) 5 to 20 wt. % of low-molecular weight chain extender, calculated as 1,4-butane diol, less the amount of araliphatic diol. Also claimed is the use of these films in rainwear, shoes, tents, seats, as mattress covers, as understating, in garments for medical purposes, and for the manufacture thereof of wound dressings.

  • Patent number: 5789528
Abstract: The preparation of polyesters and copolyesters, titanium dioxide precipitates and/or titanium dioxide/silicon dioxide coprecipitates having a composition of TiO.sub.2 :SiO.sub.2 >90:10 mol/mol and/or titanium dioxide/zirconium dioxide coprecipitates having a composition of TiO.sub.2 :ZrO.sub.2 >95:5 mol/mol, which have been obtained by hydrolytic precipitation of the corresponding metal alcoholates formed from mono- or polyhydric alcohols, are proposed as polycondensation catalysts. They offer increased safety for the ecosystem and have a higher catalytic activity than Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, so that the preferred amount used is only 10 to 100 ppm, based on the esters or oligoesters to be subjected to polycondensation. Their storage stability is good if the catalysts have a water content of from 0 to about 15 weight percent, preferably from 0 to about 5 weight percent based upon the hydrated precipitate or coprecipitate, as determined by Karl Fischer titration.

  • Patent number: 5712363
Abstract: The present invention relates to coating compositions including a particular class of oligomeric sterically hindered polyamines as replacements for traditional blocked and unblocked polyamine crosslinkers. The use of these oligomeric sterically hindered polyamine crosslinkers resultss in a desirable pot life/cure speed relationship not generally available with traditional unblocked polyamine crosslinkers, as well as a lower VOC and often better appearance characteristics than generally available with the traditional blocked varieties.

  • Patent number: 5684116
Abstract: For the preparation of polyesters and copolyesters, titanium dioxide/silicon dioxide coprecipitates having a composition of TiO.sub.2 :SiO.sub.2 =90:10 to 20:80 mol/mol and/or titanium dioxide/zirconium dioxide coprecipitates having a composition of TiO.sub.2 : ZrO.sub.2 =95:5 to 70:30 mol/mol are proposed as polycondensation catalysts. They have a higher catalytic activity than Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, so that the preferred amount used is only 10 to 100 ppm, based on the esters or oligoesters to be subjected to polycondensation.

  • Patent number: 4956433
Abstract: The invention relates to telechelic polymers based on radically polymerized, ethylenically unsaturated monomers which are obtained by polymerization by means of thiuram disulfides and dithiocarbamates, which have one or several additional functional reactive groups in addition to the carbamate group. The invention furthermore relates to the manufacture of the said type of telechelic polymers and to the use thereof, for example, as reactive precursors in higher-polymer linear or cross-linked products, especially as components of aqueous solutions, emulsions, dispersions, and suspensions for the preparation of coatings.
