  • Patent number: 7316828
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing an adhesive bond by i) applying an aqueous dispersion or solution containing a) at least one isocyanate-reactive polymer and b) at least one solid surface-deactivated polyisocyanate to a ii) substrate, iii) drying the aqueous dispersion or solution at a temperature from 20 to 95° C. to form an adhesive layer and iv) treating the adhesive layer with heat at a temperature greater than the temperature used to dry the aqueous dispersion or solution. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing a bond by combining at least one substrate with the adhesive bond of the present invention. Adhesive bonds of the present invention have a shear strength at least 10% greater than the shear strength of adhesive bonds containing a substrate having at least one adhesive layer based on an aqueous dispersion or solution composed of a) and b) dried at a temperature from 20 to 95° C.

  • Publication number: 20030157337
Abstract: The invention relates to pressure-sensitive adhesive layers produced from aqueous dispersions consisting of polymers with isocyanate-reactive groups and of surface-deactivated solid isocyanates whose shear strength can be improved by elevated temperatures. In a first step, a property profile results after water is removed by drying at drying temperatures (a) ranging from 20° C. to 95° C. Said property profile can be influenced in a second step, by a thermal treatment (b) on the single or double-sided-pressure-sensitive adhesive tape or transfer tape or on the finished bonding, in order to improve shear strength (or rather to render it less inclined to creeping) with an acceptable loss of surface adhesiveness. The duration of the thermal treatment (b) ranges from a m of 5 seconds at 135° C. (or higher temperatures) to a maximum of 30 minutes at 90° C. (measured in the layer). The maximum temperature of the thermal treatment (b) exceeds the drying temperature (a) by at least 40° C.

  • Patent number: 5844047
Abstract: The invention concerns new, liquid compositions, stable in storage at room temperature, based on polymers containing acid anhydride groups as a binder, said compositions crosslinking under the action of heat and characterized by containing dispersed, solid, powdered, anhydride reactive crosslinker which, through the application of heat, can crosslink the binder containing anhydride groups under solidification. The features of these compositions are their low toxicity, low crosslinking temperatures and good mechanical strength of the crosslinked product. The invention also concerns a method of their manufacture and their use as heat curing coatings, potting compounds, sealants and adhesives.

  • Patent number: 5710215
Abstract: The invention proposes the following method of producing reactive melts which are especially useful as hotmelt adhesives:a) suitable meltable hydroxy functional or amino functional polymers or polymer mixes (A) which become liquid at temperatures above 40.degree. C. are inhomogenously mixed withb) powdered, solid, surface desactivated polyisocyanates (B) or a suspension of such polyisocyanates (B) in a low volatility carrier fluid,c) in approximately stoichiometric proportions at a temperature of at least 40.degree. C. in a static mixer so that the resultant mixture of substances exhibits partial areas in which the ratio (1) of polymer (A) to (2) solid isocyanate (B) and desactivating agent (C) is different from the average ratio of these substances or mixtures thereof within the entire mix,d) the inhomogenous mixture is extracted in a form suitable for the intended use and solidified by cooling to below the mixture's softening point.

  • Patent number: 5633341
Abstract: The invention concerns new, two component compositions, on the basis of liquid polymers containing acid anhydride groups and sterically hindered, aromatic di- or polyamines, said compositions being able to be crosslinked at room temperature. Characteristic of these compositions is their low toxicity and controllable crosslinking behaviour. The crosslinked products are characterized by high mechanical strength, thermal resistance and hydrolytic stability. The invention also concerns methods of manufacture of the said compositions and their use as coatings, potting compounds, sealants and adhesives.
