Patent number: 11046172Abstract: The present invention is directed to a carrier for an automobile with integrated active ducting. The carrier includes at least one aperture, and at least one louver rotatably mounted in the aperture. Also attached to the carrier is an actuator, and the actuator is connected to the louver. The actuator is operable for moving the louver between an open position and a closed position such that when the louver is in the open position, air flow passes through the aperture.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2017Date of Patent: June 29, 2021Assignee: MAGNA INTERNATIONAL INCInventors: Michael W. Crane, Thomas Pilette, Norman Guschewski

Patent number: 9823469Abstract: A projector assembly having a projecting device and a display screen with a film. The display screen is changeable from between opaque and transparent and the projecting device selectively rear projects an image onto the film such that the image is visible to a user generally from the front side of the screen. When the projector is off or the projection of images is otherwise stopped under predetermined conditions, the screen becomes transparent to provide the user a clear view through the display screen. When the projector is off power is simultaneously applied to the film which becomes transparent. A control device coordinates the application of power with the image projection, such that when the projected image is removed the screen becomes clear to see through the display screen, and when the projected image returns the screen becomes opaque for viewing the image.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2014Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Magna International Inc.Inventors: Michael W. Crane, Anthony J. Povinelli, Thomas Pilette

Publication number: 20150358727Abstract: An active buffeting noise control arrangement for a vehicle having one or more window panels of a vehicle cabin. One or more actuators are positioned at or near the one or more window panels and are operable to selectively vibrate the one or more windows in order to generate sound waves that will counteract a low frequency throb or buffeting event. The arrangement further includes one or more sensors in a vehicle cabin for detecting the buffeting event in transmitting sensor data to a control module. The control module is connected to the one or more sensors as well as the one or more actuators where the control module receives the sensory data, determines if a buffeting event is occurring and commands the one or more actuator assemblies to vibrate the window and generate sound waves that are operable to counteract the buffeting event.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2012Publication date: December 10, 2015Applicant: MAGNA INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Gregory D. Rizzo, Todd Deaville, Thomas Pilette, Anthony J. Povinelli, Urban Emborg, Fredrik Samuelsson, Gustav Kristiansson

Patent number: 7798563Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a locating pin and a retention clip. The locating pin and the retention clip allow alignment of the front end module with the body structure and the retention clip secures the two assemblies in place which allows alignment of fastener holes. This conserves time in the assembly line and allows more accurate and rapid assembly of the front end module on the body structure reducing the time necessary for assembly.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2008Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Magna International, Inc.Inventors: Ameil A. Kapadia, Gari M. Schalte, Thomas Pilette

Publication number: 20080267428Abstract: A device for producing sound amplification having a control module operably associated with a digital sound device, and an amplifier connected to and supporting the digital sound device. The control module provides at least one input signal to the digital sound device, and the digital sound device receives an input signal from the control module, causing the digital sound device to produce a vibration, and causing the amplifier to increase the magnitude of the vibration.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2007Publication date: October 30, 2008Applicant: Magna International Inc.Inventors: Thomas Pilette, Kimberly Knapp, Anthony J.
