Abstract: A retractable tool stand is provided for use with a tool having a tool head and a generally elongated tool handle extending therefrom. The tool stand is mounted on the tool handle for articulation between a retracted position, where the stand is positioned generally adjacent to the tool handle so as not to interfere with use of the tool, and an extended position, where the stand generally projects away from the tool handle to engage a support surface to prop up and temporarily store the tool in a generally upright or vertical orientation. The tool stand may be directly connected to the tool handle or connected to an adapter unit that can be mounted onto or incorporated as part of the tool handle.
