  • Publication number: 20070177171
Abstract: Methods of selecting a color for an electronic ink are disclosed. A portion of a photograph may be analyzed to determine a representative color value, which may be an average color value for the portion. Depending on the photograph, more than one representative color value may be determined. A color or colors, that may include gradients in brightness or saturation levels, which will be visible on the representative color value or values, may then be determined. A color of the electronic ink is then set to the appropriate color or colors so that when a user inks on a photograph, the ink is visible.

  • Publication number: 20070180392
Abstract: System and method of adjusting selection areas of menu options in a radial menu utilize the frequency of selection of each of the menu options to adjust the size of various selection areas over time. The sizes of menu options or selection areas with relatively high frequency of use may increase, while the sizes of the selection areas of the remaining menu options may decrease. In addition, the size of the menu options may be further adjusted to return to the original arrangement, e.g., in which the size of each of the selection areas is equal or occupies some predetermined area. The user may hold an electronic pen over the radial menu or select an icon from the radial menu to resize the selection areas to return to the original arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20070176904
Abstract: A method of adjusting the size of an area to be deleted in a pen-based computing system is provided. An electronic pen may include an eraser end. The eraser end may be used to contact the display surface of a computer system. Application of pressure to the display through the eraser end of the electronic pen may result in the deletion of the text indicated by the position of the electronic pen. As additional pressure is applied, the size of the area to be deleted increases. The invention provided may be used with both pixel type and stroke type erasing systems and provides an efficient and accurate method of deleting electronic ink.

  • Publication number: 20070174782
Abstract: Intelligent rearrangement of icons on a desktop in response to changes in desktop size, such as orientation, may be provided using a number of approaches. Desktop area in multiple orientations may be divided into a grid having equal numbers of rows and columns, and placement of icons in each orientation may use common grid coordinates. Icons may alternatively be reflected along a diagonal of desktops in different orientations, such that some icon positional relationships may be maintained. Placement of icons on a desktop may be restricted to a predefined subset region of the desktop, where the subset region will fit in multiple orientations without requiring adjustment. Additionally, areas of a desktop in multiple orientations may be reserved for predefined types of icons, and changes in orientation may result in placement of icons in corresponding reserved areas based on icon attribute.

  • Publication number: 20070166151
Abstract: A steam turbine nozzle singlet having a blade or airfoil between inner and outer sidewalls is provided. The sidewalls include steps or flanges which are received in complementary recesses in the rings enabling axially short low heat input welds e.g., e-beam welds. These complementary steps and recesses mechanically interlock the singlet between the rings preventing displacement of the singlet in the event of weld failure. The low heat input welds minimize or eliminate distortion of the nozzle flow path. Additional features on the singlets, provide a datum for milling machines to form singlets of different sizes.

  • Publication number: 20060209014
Abstract: Described is a system and method in which pen gestures cause a mode to be entered in which a computing device acts as if a modifier key (e.g., Control, Alt, or Shift) was being pressed. This is accomplished by a pen driver sending a modifier key down to the keyboard and mouse input subsystem. Modifier key behavior is thus provided, including at times when a keyboard is not readily available. While in the modifier key mode, additional gestures can be input, including a gesture that results in the computing device acting as if multiple modifier keys are pressed. Also, while in the mode, visual feedback may be provided to indicate the mode is active. The mode may be exited by sending a corresponding modifier key up, and the exit may be triggered in various ways, including by other gestures, mouse or pen events, and certain keyboard input.

  • Publication number: 20060016518
Abstract: A method for measuring and displaying the flatness of a rolled steel sheet is disclosed that includes the steps of measuring tension in the sheet at a plurality of locations on the surface of the sheet and determining a plurality of tension ranges into which the sensed tension level can fall. A color is associated with each of the tension ranges, and a representation of the sheet is produced that is made up of a plurality of regions, each region having a color corresponding to tension range into which the tension sensed at the corresponding location on the surface of the sheet falls. A device for carrying out this method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6410703
Abstract: The present invention is directed to identifying a gene, iroNec, from an extraintestinal isolate of E. coli, CP9. This gene was identified from CP9 by screening a library of 527 mutant derivatives of CP9 with active TnphoA fusion in human urine. Two mutant derivative CP9.45 and CP9.82 possessed increased PhoA activity in urine due to the TnphoA insertion into iroNec. The product of this gene is an extracytoplasmic protein of 725 amino acids and can be used as vaccine against extraintestinal E. coli infections.

  • Patent number: 5082652
Abstract: Disclosed is an aerosol deodorant composition which includes an aerosol propellant, a volatile low-viscosity fluid, an oil absorbent particulate material, a silicone polymer and a deodorancy agent, such as at least one of a fragrance and a bactericide. The addition of the oil absorbent particulate material prevents dusting of liquid particles, and the addition of the silicone polymer prevents dusting by the oil absorbent particulate material. Also disclosed is an aerosol deodorant package including the aerosol deodorant composition and an aerosol delivery system having a valve which has orifices for passing the aerosol deodorant composition out of the package, the orifices having diameters such that the average delivery rate of the aerosol deodorant composition from the package is at most 0.44 gm/sec.

  • Patent number: 4935224
Abstract: Disclosed is an aerosol antiperspirant composition containing a silicone polymer (e.g., a silicone gum) and a volatile low-viscosity fluid in which the silicone polymer is soluble, in addition to at least a propellant and an active antiperspirant salt. The silicone polymer is in the composition in an amount of at least 0.1% by weight based on the total weight of the compositoin, and is completely dissolved in the composition. Use of the silicone polymer and the volatile low-viscosity fluid, with the polymer completely dissolved in the composition, avoids dustiness and clogging of the aerosol valve, and permits delivery of the composition at relatively low delivery rates. Where the silicone polymer and volatile low-viscosity fluid are provided as a substantially fluid, product bounce-back upon spraying is further reduced, product deposition is increased, and the deposited product has greater resistance to washing-off and rubbing-off.
