  • Patent number: 11758632
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a multiplicity of luminaries connected to a single wire pair. The luminaries contain minimum circuitry to allow dimming and color tuning by pulses on the wire pair without the need for a separate control wire or control communication bus or network. A single luminary can be color tuned to many different colors as well as dimmed and turned on and off. A driver module drives the wire pair and receives commands over a network The driver module contains a pulse generation circuit that generates and applies pulses to the two-wire output. The amplitude of some the pulses control color of the luminary by selecting different LEDs in the luminary to light, while other pulses control brightness.

  • Patent number: 11583993
Abstract: An axe including: a lever axe head having a cutting edge, the lever axe head being configured to generate a torque and to rotate upon one of the cutting edge striking a material and the cutting edge penetrating a predetermined distance into the material; a handle having a first portion attached to the lever axe head and a second portion to be gripped by a user; and one or more springs disposed between the first portion of the handle and the lever axe head for biasing the lever axe head and handle relative to each other such that first portion of the handle and the lever axe head rotate relative to each other to absorb at least a portion of the generated torque from being transmitted to the user.

  • Patent number: 11473885
Abstract: A compressive structural element including: an enclosure having a top, a bottom, and inner wall and an outer wall, a first cavity defined between the inner and outer walls and a second cavity defined by the inner wall; and a non-compressible material disposed in the first cavity; wherein the outer wall has at least a portion thereof inwardly shaped toward the first cavity and the inner wall has at least a portion outwardly shaped towards the first cavity such that a first compressive force acting on the top and/or bottom tending to compress the element by a first deflection causes an amplified second deflection, relative to the first deflection, of the inner and/or outer walls into the non-compressible material, thereby exerting a second compressive force against the non-compressible material, resulting in a resistance to the first deflection and the first compressive force tending to compress the element.

  • Patent number: 9955544
Abstract: A system and method that uses a tag-driven network architecture controlled by one or more central controllers. Unique tags are associated with various system components such as remote switches, sensors and other peripherals. A tag is assigned to a node when the node is first entered into the network. A distributed policy creates relationships between tags of various different equipment. The tag typically defines what the policy is for a particular local node. The node executes the policy that is supplied in its tag by accessing a recipe associated with that tag. If a device is not working, other similar devices can take over its task simply by executing the recipe associated with the failed device's tag instead of their own.

  • Patent number: 9816857
Abstract: A method for calculating a rate of UV radiation absorbed by a user's skin including: capturing image data of an area of the user's skin; determining a skin tone of the user's skin based on the captured image data; calculating a rate of UV radiation absorption for the determined skin tone; measuring an amount of UV radiation exposed to the user's skin; and calculating a rate of UV radiation that would be absorbed by the user's skin based on the user's skin tone and the amount of UV radiation exposed to the user's skin. The method can further comprise calculating an amount of time that the user can be exposed to the amount of UV radiation exposed to the user's skin based on predetermined criteria. The predetermined criteria can at least include an SPF level of sunscreen applied to the user's skin.

  • Patent number: 9615976
Abstract: A method for closing a puncture wound on skin. The method including: adhering a first surface of a first member having an unrestrained shape to the skin and over the puncture; and subsequent to the adhering, removing a second member for restraining the first member in a restrained shape from the first member. Where at least a normal force is applied to the puncture wound due to the removal of the second member from the first member which causes the first member to change towards the unrestrained shape. The removing can further cause a force substantially perpendicular to the normal force which tends to close the puncture wound.
