  • Patent number: 5330489
Abstract: A strap assembly to be looped about split portions of human tissue to retain the split portions in adjacent contacting relation to promote healing thereof is provided. The strap assembly includes a flexible strap member and a buckle member to secure the strap member. The buckle member includes a base member having an opening extending therethrough for reception of the strap member and a clip member pivotally mounted to the base member for engaging the strap member. The clip member is adapted to pivot from an open position to allow for reception of the strap member through the opening and a closed position wherein the strap is engaged by and wedged between a forward edge of the clip member and the base member to secure the strap member around the split portions of tissue.

  • Patent number: 4958782
Abstract: A tape supply for supplying tape under constant tension is disclosed. The tape supply includes a mechanism for mounting a reel of tape. The reel rotates as tape is withdrawn therefrom. The tape supply also includes a roller mounted on a lever. The tape passes over the surface of the roller as the tape is withdrawn. The lever is pivoted to move the roller in opposite directions. The tape supply also includes a torsion spring having two ends. One end of the spring is fixed against movement. The second end is coupled to the lever by a coupling mechanism so that: (a) the spring urges the lever in a first of the opposite directions to apply tension to tape passing over the roller; (b) the lever moves in the second of the opposite directions in response to an increase in tension on the tape, thereby torsioning the spring; and (c) the lever moves in the first direction in response to a decrease in tension on the tape, thereby relieving the torsioning of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4844188
Abstract: A mechanism for transporting flat articles, such as envelopes, onto and across the tray of a scale. A belt is trained about a combination of rollers received within slots of the tray which in combination with clamps supported by the tray are used to transport a flat onto the weighing scale. When a flat is to be weighed, it is transported onto the tray, the rollers are withdrawn below the tray by the belt and the clamps hold the flat securely against the tray. The tray is then oscillated and the weight of the flat is determined from the harmonic period of oscillation. Upon completion of weighing, the belt is placed into contact with the flat and rotated to remove the flat from the tray.
