Patent number: 8135835Abstract: Methods, brokerage systems and program products for enabling a mobile electronic device communicate with another electronic device for accomplishing a requested task without interrupting a user of the other electronic device. A task is requested at the mobile device and a transmission signal locates other electronic devices within a receivable range of the transmission signal. A number of scenarios of various combinations of located other devices is built, whereby each scenario is capable of accomplishing the requested task. One of these scenarios is selected, information relating to the task is sent to the electronic devices within such scenario, and then the requested task is performed by such selected electronic devices. Upon completion of the task, deliverables may be transmitted from the selected electronic device to a predetermined destination. Owners of the selected electronic devices may be rewarded for usage of their devices.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2005Date of Patent: March 13, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Tijs I. Patent number: 8095505Abstract: Copy protected materials are backed up or restored and made available for play on electronic media players through an online retrievable system. Corrupted segments of electronic media storage files are identified and located prior to being read, executed, or played. An uncorrupted copy from the network is then located, and software instructions provide for the storage of the uncorrupted segment of the file on electronic media player, merging the uncorrupted segment into the reading, executing, or playing of the electronic storage media file to seamlessly produce an output in real-time that is indistinguishable from the uncorrupted file.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2009Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: International Business machines CorporationInventors: Edward E. Kelley, Tijs I Wilbrink

Patent number: 7845005Abstract: A computer random access memory is divided into first and second partitions. Each partition has its own operating system (OS). The first partition has a conventional OS and is designated for non-Internet use. The second partition is designated for secure Internet access, and has an OS specific for Internet usage. Software in the second partition cannot write or copy files in the second partition. The size of the second partition is fixed and unchangeable while said second partition is open. Each software application in the second partition is allocated a memory region that cannot be changed, thereby preventing memory overflow attacks. A secure memory is designated for temporary storage of software used in the second partition. Cyclic redundancy check (CRC) values are calculated for all files in the secure memory. To detect unauthorized file changes, CRC values are calculated for all files used in the second partition, and checked against values stored in the secure memory.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2006Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Edward E. Kelley, Franco Motika, Tijs I. Wilbrink

Patent number: 7765258Abstract: During a presentation conducted between a presentation computer and a user/participant computer, synchronization of displayed pages on the presentation computer and a user/participant computer is achieved consistent with allowing the user/participant to browse the presentation pages by storing a page identifier responsive to each page change at the presentation computer and, at each such page change, sending a “go to [page number]” command to the user/participant computer to display the current page, after which browsing may be resumed, if desired. Automatic selection between available communication links including links provided through telephone handsets or other telephone infrastructure including wireless links and wireless integration with presentation and/or user/participant computers for communicating the “go to [page number]” command is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2005Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Edward E. Patent number: 7669057Abstract: An enhanced security method is provided for accessing information from a second computer using a password at a first computer. According to such method, a password used for accessing information is inputted to the first computer and stored on the first computer. Thereafter, the stored password is encoded using an encoding algorithm which is system specific to the first computer, and the encoded password is then transmitted to the second computer. The encoded password is used at the second computer to grant or deny access to the requested information, without the second computer having to decode the encoded password to obtain the password stored on the first computer.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2005Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Edward E. Patent number: 7617191Abstract: Methods, systems and program storage devices for generating search engine search results. Online files relevant to a requested search query are located by a search engine, while simultaneously previously accessed offline files residing on a client computer are located using the same search query. The search engine retrieves the offline files from the client computer and combines such offline files with the locate online files in a single search result overview. The listing of files within the combined search results are ranked according to relevancy to the search query using a search engine scoring algorithm, whereby the offline files within the combined search results are preferably brought to a user's attention to indicate that such files reside on the client computer.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2006Date of Patent: November 10, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Tijs I. Patent number: 7113797Abstract: System, method and program product for scheduling meetings. Two or more invitees for a meeting are identified. Each of the invitees has a wireless device with a GPS or other geographic locating unit. Locations of the wireless devices are tracked. When the wireless devices of the two or more invitees are within a specified proximity of each other or a specified proximity of a specified location, then an attempt is made to schedule a meeting with the two or more invitees. A user specifies the proximity. The user can specify a greater proximity if the meeting is not scheduled by a certain date to increase the chance that the meeting will be scheduled. Another system, method and program product for reminding a person. A business or residence containing an object of a reminder is identified. A wireless device of a person to be reminded of the object is identified. A location of the wireless device is tracked.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2003Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Edward E.
