Abstract: A remote control instant messaging method and system for automatically activating an instant messaging session based upon remote detection of a user approaching a processor capable of executing an instant message system. The method and system also automatically deactivate the instant messaging session based upon remote detection of the user's absence from such processor and automatically re-activate the instant messaging session based upon remote detection of the user's return to the processor. A second instant messaging session can also be remotely activated on a second processor operated by another user_id by detecting the first user's approach to such second processor. The first user is automatically disengaged from this second instant messaging session when the user leaves the location of the second processor.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for controlling the presentation of submissions within a real-time communication session by sequentially organizing and displaying messages immediately followed by their corresponding responses for allowing participants within the session to easily view, follow and participate within such session. Sequential tags are associated with each submission displayed within the session, whereby these tags are used to sequentially sort the messages along with their corresponding responses. Time stamps associated with each message and response may further be used for sequentially sorting such messages along with their corresponding responses. These sequentially sorted messages and corresponding responses are viewed in a modified display window, optionally along with the unmodified display window of the real-time communication session, on a display screen. This modified display window may be continually refreshed.

Abstract: A method for implementing transaction-based data exchange. The method includes transferring information relating to a product via a transmission means selected by an individual at a computing device requesting the information. The information includes at least one of warranty information, accounting information, pricing information, and product details. The method further includes calculating a net worth relating to the product, and updating a financial application associated with the individual with results of the calculating.

Abstract: An enhanced security method is provided for accessing information from a second computer using a password at a first computer. According to such method, a password used for accessing information is inputted to the first computer and stored on the first computer. Thereafter, the stored password is encoded using an encoding algorithm which is system specific to the first computer, and the encoded password is then transmitted to the second computer. The encoded password is used at the second computer to grant or deny access to the requested information, without the second computer having to decode the encoded password to obtain the password stored on the first computer.

Abstract: A system and method for providing input to a handheld computing device by provisioning the handheld computing device with a projecting device a projecting device for displaying a graphical representation of a keyboard, the graphical representation including key locations capable of being selected by an object, the graphical image displayed in an area proximate the device; a signal detection system for detecting the presence of an object located at a selected key location within the area; and, a mechanism for determining the selected key in response to detecting an object at a corresponding selected key location and registering the selected key as a keystroke in the computing device.

Abstract: System, method and program for controlling access to a file within a computer. A predetermined value of an attribute of the computer is identified. A current value of the attribute is determined. Periodically, a determination is made if the predetermined value matches the current value. If so, access to the file is allowed. If not, access to the file is prevented. The period at which the determination is performed is based on a type of the attribute. The attribute of the computer can be a physical location of the computer, a type of network connection of the computer, or a type of application program resident in the computer.

Abstract: A system and method for providing input to a handheld computing device by provisioning the handheld computing device with a device for projecting images generated as a result of applications executing on the computer device on a surface in front of a user located proximate said device, a projected image including an active screen display corresponding to an application executing in the device. A further projected image includes an object image located within the active screen display and representing a pointer to locations within the projected active screen display. The system detects the presence of an object located at the surface and within a projected image display area, and converts detected movement of the object located within a projected image display area on the surface into movement of the object image within the projected active screen display. The user is thus able to initiate a data input operation or execute a function at a location in the active screen display for the executing application.

Abstract: A system, method and program product for making a presentation of screens to one or more invitees. A preliminary sequence of screens is defined to a computer. Before presenting one of the screens in the sequence to the one or more invitees, the computer presents to a presenter the one screen. Subsequently, the presenter decides whether to present the one screen to the one or more invitees and conveys the decision about the one screen to the computer. If the presenter decides to present the one screen to the one or more invitees, then the computer sends the one screen to a display device for each of the one or more invitees. If the presenter decides not to present the one screen to the one or more invitees, then the computer does not send the one screen to the display devices for the one or more invitees whereby the one or more invitees will not see the one screen.

Abstract: A method for providing deep linking activities with digital rights management. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes identifying a hypertext link on a source web page as a deep link and, upon selecting the deep link, accessing a deep link table associated with the deep link. The hypertext link refers to a target web page on a target web site. The deep link table contains web page links and rules operable for establishing web content that is to be presented to a visitor of the target web site. The method also includes displaying web content to the visitor in accordance with the rules. The invention also includes a system and a storage medium.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for performing calendaring and reminder activities for a computer user. The method includes analyzing text displayed on a computer screen, identifying calendar parameters resulting from the analysis, creating a calendar entry record that includes a source of the calendar parameters, pasting the calendar parameters into the calendar entry record, and automatically storing the calendar entry record in a calendar application without opening the calendar application. Calendar parameters include at least one of a date, a time, a meeting type, and a subject.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for providing autonomic identification of an important message addressed to a recipient email subscriber. The method includes scanning an email message received over a network operable for identifying a Uniform Resource Locator contained in the email message. If a Uniform Resource Locator is found, the Uniform Resource Locator is compared to the contents of a history file that stores a listing of Uniform Resource Locators previously accessed by the recipient email subscriber. The method also includes performing analytics for the Uniform Resource Locator based upon said contents of the history file, resulting in a rating assigned to the Uniform Resource Locator. If the rating meets a minimum standard set for qualifying the Uniform Resource Locator as relevant, the email message is flagged as relevant and forwarded to the recipient email subscriber.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for providing interoperability of email and instant messaging services. The method includes receiving a request by an email recipient to respond to an email message using an instant message application, retrieving an instant message address for the email sender from storage, and associating the instant message address of the email sender with an instant message composed by the email recipient. The retrieval of the instant message address for the email sender is accomplished by mapping the email sender's address with a corresponding instant message address for the email sender. The method further includes transmitting the instant message to the instant message address using the message application. Other embodiments include a system and a storage medium.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for providing search and reference functions for a messaging system. The method comprises receiving a request to search a data archive for reference information relating to at least one keyword selected by a messaging system user while the messaging system user is actively engaged in composing a message or a response to a message. The keyword is selected from the body of text contained in the message. The method further includes searching the data archive and, if a reference is found, presenting the reference to the messaging system user within the message. The data archive includes information gathered from the messaging system user's message folder and at least one of a local data storage system, and a shared online repository. Embodiments of the invention also include a system and a storage medium.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for providing web-based electronic research and presentation functions via a document creation application. The method comprises scanning an active document on a computer device for identifying relevant keywords, and searching at least one database for reference materials relating to the relevant keywords. The active document includes data currently being entered or edited by a user on the computer device. Results relevant to the active document are automatically shown on the computer screen. The method also includes converting the reference materials if they are in a format different from the format used in creating the active document, and displaying the converted reference materials on the computer device. Embodiments of the invention also include a system and a storage medium.

Abstract: Systems and methods for processing autonomic e-mails, which each have at least one unique identifying number attached to them, are disclosed. Internally within an organization, e-mails are often sent to multiple recipients, such as to all members of a particular distribution list, to request information or ask that a task be performed by one or more, but less than all, of those recipients. The disclosed systems and methods help minimize the overall time burden to those recipients in responding to or trying to track such e-mails, and help the sender and recipients alike more easily view, manage and control such e-mails and their ultimate disposition, including the sender's e-mail and the plurality of responses sent by recipients. Separate viewable areas for each string or chain of related autonomic e-mails within each user's e-mail in-box and other e-mail storage areas are provided.

Abstract: In automotive GPS navigation systems, a traveler's agenda with multiple desired destinations can be entered in a largely automatic fashion by downloading an agenda table created using the agenda replicator system and methods disclosed herein. The replicator system includes computer hardware and software systems, operable by a user, to acquire and store, apart from a vehicle and its GPS navigation system, personal travel agenda information for later transfer to a storage subsystem of the vehicle's GPS navigation system. The hardware system may be implemented as a desktop or laptop computer, or even a personal digital assistant. The software system includes program components for controlling the hardware and providing a data structure in which personal travel information selected by the user is placed in an agenda table. The replicator system includes means for transferring the information from this data structure into a storage subsystem of the vehicle's GPS navigation system.

Abstract: A method employing a software application for operation for analyzing conversational patterns between people and teams within an organization, locating inconsistencies in the required and actual access level to knowledge repositories, which ultimately results in dynamically updating access control lists of the knowledge repositories, and having the originator and anticipated users being prompted to further enable informed, fact-based manual control of the access control lists.

Abstract: A software application and corresponding architecture to implement the application that dynamically updates the access control list and keeps track of the distribution routes of a document in a repository where the document is built and accessed through usage of a common email system. The access control list and distribution routes are built by tracking recipients of the email message linked to the document. Some recipients can be disabled by the originator from forwarding the referenced databases within the emailed document, while others may designate further transmissions to selected persons or groups.
