  • Patent number: 9851187
Abstract: A shock mitigation assembly for a penetrating explosive weapon having a first explosive charge and a second explosive charge includes an electronic circuit card having an electronic circuit formed therein, a weight attached to the circuit card to form a circuit card subassembly, a housing enclosing the subassembly, and a hyperelastic material between the housing and the subassembly for internal shock mitigation. The hyperelastic material has a modulus of elasticity that remains elastic characteristics with shock, temperature, or a combination of shock and temperature. The housing may include a casing and a cover with corresponding features that mate with one another and prevent separation of the cover from the casing. The casing also may have an external spiral flange that overlaps an internal spiral flange of a support for the casing, with a hyperelastic material between the casing and support for external shock mitigation.

  • Patent number: 9658044
Abstract: There is a firing and arming system, such as an activation system, of a munition for quickly and accurately activating a warhead or a propulsion system of the activation system. An initiator interface of the activation system activates the warhead or propulsion system. At least one power source is included in the activation system to provide the initial power for activation of the initiator interface and subsequent activating of the respective warhead or propulsion system. Logic elements are communicatively disposed between the at least one power source and a flux compression generator circuit to control activation of the generator. The flux compression generator circuit is at least partially detonated to transform current received from the at least one power source into sufficient current for activating the initiator interface.

  • Patent number: 8939083
Abstract: The safing system employs a multi-axis accelerometer system and multi-axis gyroscope system and a processor that is programmed to iteratively read acceleration data from the accelerometer system and apply a multi-axis rotation on the acceleration data using gyroscope data iteratively read from the gyroscope system to generate rotationally corrected acceleration data and further programmed to calculate a cumulative distance measure using the rotationally corrected acceleration data. The processor then compares the cumulative distance measure with a predetermined reference measure and to issue a control signal to enable arming of the device when the cumulative distance measure exceeds the reference measure.

  • Patent number: 5756926
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, an environmentally insensitive initiator, including: an electro-explosive device responsive to an electrical signal of unique voltage and frequency applied to the electro-explosive device, the unique voltage and frequency being such that are not otherwise present in a well completion operation. An example of voltage and frequency is 350V at 900 Hz. In another aspect, an initiator insertable in a housing insertable in a well casing, the initiator having a contact which is grounded when the initiator is uninstalled, to protect against unintended currents, but which becomes ungrounded by the act of inserting the initiator in the housing. In a further aspect, an initiator including a dual-function fuse.
